The Associated Press[/URL], Wednesday, December 21, 2011, 10:05am (PST)

NEW YORK (AP) - A judge called the imprisoned son of actor Michael Douglas reckless and irresponsible as he nearly doubled his prison sentence Wednesday from five years to 9½ years for repeated drug offenses.

U.S. District Judge Richard Berman in Manhattan cited Cameron Douglas' "history of reckless behavior" as he imposed a new punishment that was more than double what prosecutors were seeking for Douglas' guilty plea to drug charges that arose from his successful efforts to smuggle drugs into prison.

Berman added 4½ years to the five-year term he gave Douglas last year for his guilty plea in connection with his sales of methamphetamine in July 2009 from a high-end Manhattan hotel.

I don't care who it is, nobody deserves any prison time for a drug related offense. As long as you aren't hurting anybody I really don't see the issue

Must have been one really power hungry judge

I'm sure the judge knew it would be news heard around the world. I wonder when he is up for reelection?

I would have skipped the sentencing hearing, let them issue a warrant, and then appealed the case. Eventually he would have had to turn himself in, but it still circumvents the original judge. Then his attorney can ask a higher court for an appeal bond.

RICH people do 1/4 of the time. so 10 year sentence he will do 2.5 years MAX. so if they left it at 4 years he would only be in there for 1 year.

And I think METH dealers should be SHOT (sorry meth heads) That shit will ruin you Whole life, Just go get some Coke insted...... LOL

LOL, try defendant. I walked out of my own trial when the judge refused to call a mistrial after denying my constitutional rights. That's when I told the system to fuck itself, and fought it from out of state. I had help though, quite a bit actually from within the system.

I'll even share the county it happened in, the very same judge that presided over the below case also presided over mine...long story short is I won the appeal.

BTW, have to add the above case was in no way connected with mine other than the same judge.

This spoied brat has most likely been in tons of trouble with the law, and likely hasn't served a day of what he should have. The judge was probably pissed and said you know what? No more ignoring the law. No more thinking he can just get aww with anything. I wish the judge that lindsay Lohan sees would do the same and give her ass ten years.

Rich person tries to smuggle drugs into a jail and he is a terrible terrible person trying to exploit others and thinking he is better than everyone else.

Poor person tries to smuggle drugs into a jail and he's a poor charity case that needs help - not his fault at all but the man that's oppressing him? How does this poor person not also think that they can do whatever they want?

I kinda thought a person smuggling drugs into jail was a person smuggling drugs into jail... doesn't really matter how much money they have. How many years would a poor drug smuggler get? 4 or 9?

Lets say a poor person brutally tortures and then murders someone. Lets say a rich person brutally tortures and then murders someone. Isn't it the same crime? I would assume neither expects to get away with it and that the penalty would be the same...

Wow, I have heard never, ever get arrested in IL and now I can see why. I'm glad that you were able to beat them at their own game. I hope you never went back, too.
