Old School Seeds

I have finally begun building an indoor grow room. After many years of buying my meds I will now be able to grow my own. 35 years ago while I was a college student I smoked some weed that was absolutely killer. All I remember is, up to that time I had never seen, smelled or tasted anything like it before or since. I also recall that it was from Indonesia. Well I found those seeds as I went through some old stuff. They have been in a box in my storage for 35 years. Would be so cool if they would still germinate when I am ready for them. Will something that old still germinate?

What conditions were they kept in?
Seeds kept in cold storage can last a very long time.

Thank you Perro for the info. I have about 20 of those seeds. I will not be popping them until spring but I will keep a journal. I was super excited to find those seeds. And the possibility of growing something I smoked back in 1978 that was so good that I saved the seeds for almost 40 years. Back then most of weed came with seeds in the bag. You would throw all of them out with the stems when you cleaned your weed. For me to save seeds back then was unheard of, nobody did. So I know that these seeds are special. It's kind of like bringing back a piece of history or at least a piece of my youth..

Your welcome @PungentPete . If those seeds crack I would defiantly look at breeding with the best two on the first run rather then attempting to get meds. Landrace plants can be nuts indoors so be ready to clone and flower from fresh rooted clones to try and keep them manageable.

My first grow was seeds from mexi brick that turned out ten times better then the bag it came from. I learned to clone and grow with those seeds and ran that one female many times before moving on to other things.... :)

Well being a new grower and not real knowledgeable about that stuff I hope I will be able to pull all that off. This year was my first grow ever so I am trying to absorb all the info I can.

I understand how things seem overwhelming from the start. I would read all the sticky posts in most of the forums here and feel free to pm the more open and friendly folks here if your stuck on something. So you have one grow and harvest under your belt? What was the toughest part of that first grow for you? When things get crazy remember it's a weed and will grow on it's own if we would let it... :)

Well I am doing my first grow outdoors. Was all organic and I really had no issues. I have not harvested yet. Having patience has been the toughest part at this point.

They smell like sweet candy and I can't wait until they finish. How long would you say?

Looks like you have a natural touch for this @PungentPete ! Very healthy and happy looking plants you have going there, fat tricomes!

I harvest a little different then some and haven't harvested an outdoor plant since high school when I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Watch for bud swell, trics color (I like opaque cloudy with a few just starting to amber up), overall plant health and weather. A good way in the beginning is to snip and dry a small sampler bud and give her a puff. Study up on drying and curing, I believe both are the most overlooked part by new growers.

The first puff of your own grown and cured bud will be an amazingly rewarding experience, transcendent, a self sufficient pride and satisfaction... :)

You know Perro that is exactly how I would feel. I couldn't of said it better myself. And I am so looking forward to that. And I will study up on harvesting and curing. Thank you all for the information and input. I will never interpret the phrase " watching the grass grow" the same again. It is way more enjoyable than I ever thought it could.

It is supposed to rain Saturday most of the day and then a chance of showers Sunday followed by a few days of partial sun. Will the plant in the picture be ok if it gets dumped on.?

The plant looks like it has a ways to go yet. You could set up a tarp like tent to keep the majority of water from the rain off your girl and uncover her once the sun is back out. Just a thought... :)

Do not get germs on the old beans. Wear gloves or give them a soak in hydrogen peroxide- 20 parts water to 1 part store bought peroxide for an hour. Then a 24 hour soak in Superthrive and molasses water, very little of either. You should scuff the seeds before doing all that. Sandpaper tube and shake the beans for a few minutes in it. Then into wet paper towels at 85f. Use a seed mat with temp controller.

Since the seeds got hot in the garage they may not pop but what the hell.
