Old leafy homegrown, where did I go wrong ?

My first attempt is looking like a fail :0( My buds were so plush and skunky smelling when they were fresh and first cut, but now that they are almost dry they look like old leafy homegrown. Does all outdoor weed look like that or did I go wrong somewhere in the drying or grooming process? I probably should have trimmed all the leaves when the buds were fresh, but I waited to do the sugar leaves until dry, and it was so hard to separate the shrivelled up leaves from the dried bud. Any pointers to avoid growing loose leafy bud next time would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You may have pulled it early?
The best way to roll if you just have a plant or two, is to pull all the fans off the plant and leave the sugar leaves, take the whole plant down and hang the whole thing. Five or so days later, (depending on the humidity), trim off a small branch and nip off the tips of the sugar leaves and crows feet.
If you have lots of plants you get yourself a bud trimmer.

Try a dry trim. I found its actually faster. Plus, I believe you get a better cure and smell.
I might give it another try, as I have way too much to harvest fresh right now...been harvesting the densest ripest buds right now...but the weather is turning to shit about now and i don't have any other choice
