I am seriously considering growing outside but I'm not sure if plants will grow well with Oklahoma's red clay. Should i just dig a big hole and fill it with my own mix. I have read sand and perlite will help to drain better.

Any feedback would be good from someone who knows more than I

clay is crap for soil yes dig a big hole or maybe just a garden bed so the soil you take out you can build your sides up fill with good soil and remember the bigger the hole the bigger the tree

and sand and perlight will work for the drainage but the clay might hold water so dig a hole once you get done so you can see how much water is being held in the hole by the clay so you don't over water
