Here we go.....my grow journal. I started my grow on 2/08/2008. I planted 7 bagseeds from unknown pot, and one seed from some nice green I had over Xmas, into small earthen pots, in MG (i know I know) African violet soil, and allowed them to sprout directly from the soil. Of the 8, 3 broke ground on 2/18, the rest never did...although the seed from the good bud DID sprout. I just put them into pots under my dual bulb 48"/40w flouro shop light in a box lined with white sheets as soon as they broke soil, and I put a light fan on them. Running lights 24/7, as well as fan. Been watering them with straight aged tap when the soil dries out (finger in soil technique).
Anyway.....I transplanted them into #10 pots when the first set of serrated leaves appeared. I killed the one that came from the better pot by overwatering (lid was loose on can and spilled into pot...dumb ass me) and the other two transplanted fine. Had to stake one to keep it upright, but otherwise great. Anyway, after 16 days above surface they are maybe 5-7" tall and are JUST now showing second set of regular leaves.
Also, 3 nights ago (3/2) I was out of weed and my pregenant wife had some stashed for her after baby smoke and gave me a little of that nice sweet green. I forgot that I had found a seed in it, and while I was stoned out I just stuck it into the pot of one of my other plants, and lo and behold last night it sprouted...so I took a bagseed from my current decent sati weed and stuck it into a pot...what the hell. I still have them all under the flouros 24/7.
I have a hydrofarm habitata and 400w dual ballast, so I will be moving them in there this weekend, in hopes they grow stronger. They are healthy but S------L-------O------W----growing.
Anyway, I think that is everything for now. I will post pics tonight when I get my camera charged. Any advice is appreciated!

3/5/08--Okay so I got the pics finally....let's hope I can post 'em up here right! The first two are my healthiest plant, who I dubbed Johanna (jo-jo) becuase of the song that was playing the first time I saw here above the soil (they have 24/7 Grtaeful Dead music), the second two are Droopy McDroops, who has hung her head since birth, but otherwise is growing good. That's a bit of dirt on her head from my fat finger. They are 17 days old now!! The third is Chamber weed....the pot the seed came from was in the chamber of a pipe my wife used before she got knocked up.....and she gave me a little piece and I found a sticky resin coated seed in there....planted it straight into the soil...and three days later here she is....Miss Marylin Chambers!!

Your plants look fine man... some grow faster than others, some grow slower than others... they don't look unhealthy at all from the pics... they're not stretching so the lights must be fine... don't see any signs of leaves being burnt... remember, patience is a virtue my friend, and if this is your first time, be careful how frequently you water, most common mistake is overwatering!!!! don't let your leaves get droopy! haha, good luck man and i'll try and check in later!

thanks alot man...I thought they looked healthy...but just so small.....thanks for the insight.....and as to watering, I grow houseplants and somewhat know how plants like to drink, so if anything I will underwater....not overwater..besides a little underwatering in early days can make many plants heartier, and I assume mj is the same.....thanks much, will keep the journal updated. The new set of leaves on the largest plant have almost doubled in size since I took these pictures yesterday!!

I am happy as a peach right now...just picked up my light from a grow shop that actually hasn't even opened yet in my area...and the owner is a deadhead, judt like me....we talked music for quite some time. SO....I plan on setting everything up tonight.....WEEE!!! Also, came home to find that just since last night my biggest plant's second set of leaves literally doubled in size and new little leaves formed on it, so I officially have three fingered leaves....18 days after sprouting!! 29 after planting...LOL. My second & third plants grew appreciably as well.....I will phot them after I get the new set up, so we can see exactly how they look after 18 days under GE plant/aquarium fluoros 24/0 (all I had and I knew I was getting th MH...so WTF.) and then see how quick they change going to MH on an 18/6 cycle. What a good day....plus a rumor of skunk #1 in my dry ass town, brick smokin'....60 an 1/8th (all I could get, spen a mint at the grow store)...so hopefully my order comes through...just a GREAT day...WEEEEEEEEEEE

So....at last, after about 8 hours work, I got the habitat set up and got my girls moved under the MH light. Switching to a 20/4 light cycle. Let's see how they vegg now!!! Below are pictures of them as soon as they were settled into the new home. They have been under a pair of 40w GE plant/aquarium fluoros on a 24/0 cycle. The first two broke ground on 2/18, so have been under lights for 19 days today. The second one broke ground on 3/4, so has been under the fluros for just 4 days. I will post pics again when they show some appreciable growth...which should be fairly quickly under the MH bulb. Wahooo!!!!

your new MH will rock the fluorescent. just be sure not to keep it to far or to close to your plants so you can keep them bushy and they dont stretch for light.put your hand 2 inches above the plant and adjust the light so its comfortable on your hand, and have good ventilation/a fan blowing in your setup.other than that they look good:blsmoke:

Lights are hung exactly as you have said (per what I have read) and the fan is on them.....so I hope that all is going well. I watered today with the first nutes....mixed at 25% the recommended amount. PH was a healthy 6.8. Temp is 68 right now.....was 74 today....humidity at 33%....going to monitor humidity and have humidifier if needed. Just got the hygrometer today. Thanks for the props and advice t0k3s!

after 2 and 1/2 hours under the MH light the girls have opened up their leaves nicely and seem to be muy contented. The temperature with the MH light having run for 2 hours is 75.....humidity at 46%........NICE.......so....at last I feel like I am actually doing something!

Stablized the humidity by placing my water cans, full, into the grow room. The open water like that has brought the humidity up to 45% and steady. Temp staying right at 74. The new leaf growths are very light green, which is a sign of possible nutrient deficiency, but I am not sure how to feed them, as they are not in need of water. Researching now. Otherwise growth is good and plants are standing tall. After 36 hours under MH lights I have noticed at least a doubling in the size of the existing leaves, and the appearance of two new leaf sets on each plant. Definite acceleration of growth from flouro to MH.

any thing with high "Nitrogen". 3/2/4 would be suitable. or anything similar just make sure the middle number is lower than the first and third number.the first number represents nitrogen the second is potassium and third kalcium. as long as you have a nitrogen number higher then potassium your good that will aid in vegetative growth. then when you get ready to go into flower go to a lower nitrogen number and increase the middle potassium number and it will help your colas fatten up.
