Changed light to bloom and bloom nutes at 20ml/gal. after 24hrs of dark started 12/12 and this happened 2 days later on only one plant.
Looked like too much light?

I up potted to 10g with VermiSoil, added plain warm well water at 6.4ph and I raised the light to about 18" yesterday. THis morn the tips of even the newest tops are turning brown which they weren't yesterday. No improvement on the big leaves, in fact much worse. No issues with the bottom 2/3rds of the plant. I was hoping for improvement with a couple of inches of new soil and just water.

I didn't disturb the roots, just massaged the outside of the bucket and pulled out the plant pretty easily, I couldn't invert it by myself. 2" new soil on bottom and filled in the side 2". Largest pot I had that wasn't ceramic.

Should I have washed the root ball in warm water, broke it up or something? I normally don't do anything but I never transplanted a 5gal plant into anything. There was NO soil that spilled out or was left in the bucket. All of it was root bound but I have seen much more roots on the outsides of the ball than this before.

I did manage to find a larger 15gal poly pot yesterday after going to 3 nurseries and was able to get a used one only for $8! They did have a 10g one that was filled with trash for $6, OMG, they lost a return customer.
I'm sure the Hydro store will have something today plus I need more soil besides the nursery mixes. This hydro store is way pricey too.

I don't know what these mean. PPM 750, EC 1550 This is only 15ml/gal of bloom, 6.48ph

I just watered the center with 2 gal of 6.4PH 77 deg water. No Nutes. Flowed through easily. I had been watering just the out side mostly.
Should I add those Nutes above now?

Lots of dead leaves I pulled and cut off. Should I just cut the tops off 6" or down to the healthy part?

One thing to note is I can hold onto these I-Grow bulbs with bare hands. I do have tough hands but.....I also have a small fan blowing across the bulb.
I measure about 18000 to 21000 lux at 4-8" with phone app meter and drops fast.
These plants are from 1977 seeds I had.

I would say that its a root thing by how the die off is happening, but what do l know? Fuck all. I usually break up roots so they can grow, if rootbound thay have a hard time pushing new roots through the older ones or they continue circling. Anyway its harder for them. They will get through it usually. Looks like it shocked really bad. No clue why.

This was a solid mass of roots. I was surprised I could pull it out without inverting the plant. The root ball did stretch some, probably why the center could take on water easily now.

Roots were real fine and broke up very easily and as I broke them up the bottom 1.5" fell off when I picked up the ball. Time will tell.
Vermisoil says to not feed for a week.
I'm thinking it may need something more immediate but what?

The roots were more on the tan or bit darker side.

My first thought is perlite
Not enough oxygen to the root base and even drilling a few holes in the sides might help

Make sure you pick up pot b4 watering, so you will know when dry.

Those roots look like a life of overwatering
Notice how they aren't stretching
And that for the record was not root bound
I concur. I water when lower leaves droop. I got a moisture meter and now water at 3 on the meter fully inserted but it is only about 7" long. This plant took water every 2 days from the get go. The other one next to it once a week. This was the bigger plant too and appears to have not been draining well although it did drain.
I have lots to learn.

IMO wider over deeper. But that’s me
I wondered about that. Can one tray support 2 plants?
I have several Botonicare trays but they are only about 5" deep that I keep my pots in. My wife did see another at the nursery that was deeper. Not sure the size.

I have lots to learn.
Step one throw away moisture meter
Step two learn what a pot with dry medium feels like compared to fully watered
This is the best way to know when to water
