ok so i finally gave up on 7 of my 8 seedlings that i had...i germinated them all with the paper towel method, after 24 hours 1 of them was huge and nothing with the others. so i planted it in a cup and it has TAKEN OFF! i let the others germinate for another 6 days and still nothing with them. so i decided to plant them with there sibling and see what happens...its been about a week in the soil and not a sign of life, meanwhile the other one has already caused me to raise the light...oh well, i have 8 more seeds germinating now, hopefully i have better luck seeing as how i just orderd a grow tent, hps light, etc..for it...sorry guys, just wanted to vent

The paper towel method by itself leaves something to be desired... meaning it's known to not have 100% success. Try putting your seeds in a glass of water until they crack, then use the paper towel method. 100% success for me.

I would suggest you have soaked the seeds to much and killed them with fungus.

And just how do you decide that? You cannot tell which seeds are viable by looking at them.

Yes you can.

i use purplehazins way it works great and on diy a guy did a experiment with paper towel, soaking and just putting in soil he had over 90% success with soaking in water while in soil sucked and paper towel not a lot better

Directly planting viable seeds in soil correctly will always give you a 100% germ rate. Its the laziest and in my opinion the cleanest and best way to start seeds.
Professional horticulturists will never soak seeds or germ them with towels as its natures way just to plant the seeds.

Soaking the seeds is the same as planting the seed and drenching the soil; people have their own variations... there is no "right way" to germinate.

I don't have any problems using the papertowel method, as long as I pull them out as soon as I see the root coming out of the shell. Sounds like bad seeds, if you ordered them you might want to contact where you ordered them from and let them know, if they were just bagseed, than yea...oh wells...

No thats not true as you are not soaking the seeds by planting them in MOIST soil as opposed to DROWNING them in water as there is already moisture inside cannabis seeds.
Soaking seeds caused fungus and paper towels can transmit bacteria on to your germed seeds.
I just cant undersand why people make things so difficult.

No, actually, you can't. In fact, when I ordered seeds, I thought they all looked to small and imature to pop...all be damned, all of them did...save the Indian Haze by Seedman seeds, got those replaced for nirvana bubblegum.
They're are things on the outside of the shell that can denote it being a healthier seed, but that won't tell you if it will pop or not. What if the seed is older than me? Looks just as good as it did after they dried it, but its chances have dropped considerably, with no change in the outside appearance. The only time you can tell for sure is if its bad, like a crack, you KNOW that won't pop, is flat, no way, never gotta a chance to think about maturing, but thats as far as that goes....
Hey, aren't you the Narc?

Maybe its for nothing. Maybe I just got lucky but 4 for 4 on my first grow. I tried to pick the ones with nice color, good size, I pinched them in my fingers to make sure they didnt break. You might not be able to tell if a seed is 100% for sure but you sure can weed out some of the known bad ones.

Soaking seeds causes fungus? What do you soak your seeds in? Ever heard of distilled water?

Seeds need warmth (25 to 30 C) and moisture to germinate. Then it doesn´t matter if they are in soil, rockwool, paper towels or whatever. Advantage with putting them in soil is they do not need to be planted again risking damage.

Tells you zilch. Plenty of seeds with nice colour, good size and not falling apart can be sterile. Especially if it is getting a bit old, and some seedbanks can have stock hanging about for years. Only way to tell if a seed is viable is to try to germinate it.

Moist jiffy pellets that have been soaked and squeezed so the jiffy is only moist and not wet.
I use spring water with a PH of 7.0 for soaking my jiffys in. If you read that thread about starting your seeds that was me with the propogator/jiffys and scales.

Yes you can tell a viable seed by looking at it if you know what you are doing.

Well that didn't really answer my question about how you got fungus on your seeds by soaking them in water, but it was good info about jiffy pellets had I wanted to know something about them ;)
