I've got a question? Why is it that they only make the CMH bulbs up to 400w and does anyone know of plans to make larger wattage ones?

Also, here's the chart on a Hortilux Dual Arc bulb. I can run this on a 1000w digital ballast. Is the CMH that much better than this?

u need a magnetic ballast for CMH or can it run on my ipower ? im upgrading bulbs for my next grow i was like to try CMH if it runs on a HPS/MH electrnoc ballast

Based on my research from a few years ago. They make > 400W bulbs but because of instability they are not generally available. Things may have progressed since then.

Magnetic only I believe. Though, It's been a few years since I've really looked.

ok guys phillips now make an 830w cmh bulb. this thing is the equivelant of a 1000w hps and runs in a 1000w ballast

have a look at this spectrum

notice the numbers up the side. the 1,0 on this chart is the same as the 100 on the chart in the above super blue hps chart. as you can see the spectrum on this cmh bulb is off the hps chart is incredible. im getting one for sure

You just replied to an advertisement, and CMH bulbs only go up to 400w do they not?

funnily enough i did notice the links. i even showed the dresses in the links to my mrs lol. i did think it was a bit wierd lol guess im just a sucker.

and yeah the 830w is very new. it only runs vertical though which is a disappointment to me
 
how much info for a retro fit WAREHOUSE light could he be given other than its more bright full spectrum less heat...i think thats enough to switch
 
i find it funny that everyone isnt all over the agromax 6500k blue bulbs which have the same full spectrum as cmh without the extra yellow it adds extra blue which would be better for vegging right? and you can also get them in 1000 watts where as the cmh isnt available in 1000 watt im using them for vegging and they are absolutley amazing i also tried flowering with them my buds were 10x denser than with hps but i didnt notice as many trichomes but im not finished yet either and there were other factors ie higher than normal humidity and higher nutes than normal which im starting to think it was mainly the humidity and the fact that it didnt add more crystals like they say mh does is because i had the glass lens which blocks uv-b light which adds crystals my biggest buds yet came from 600 hps digilux/400 watt agromax in a customized raptor which kicked ass except for the high humidity which i wont make that mistake again

With the new 830w cmh that runs in a 1000w ballast, would that consume 830w or 1000w of your electricity ?
the one thing i really like about cmh is their lumen maintenance, basically you can keep using them for as long as they continue to work, which is in terms of multiple years, as opposed to having to ditch and switch your other types of hid every 6mth

The only way you could run it at less than 1000w would be to put it in a dimmable digital, and I'm not sure how many will run CMH lamps. Otherwise, the ballast will put out the wattage it is rated for, 1000w.
 
the thing that worries me about CMH is that it has alot of light in the green spectrum so all of that is just getting wasted. any opinions on this?

Yeah, I really don't see the advantage besides lumen maintenance over regular MH unless you can get a 3000k version. And most of those are 150w or lower. (If we're talking just for flowering).

Green plants don't reflect all green light.
They just reflect more of it then other parts of the visible spectrum.
It is not waisted. Green plants use green light too.
 
Thanks for that info about the ballast brotherjericho. 830Seems a bit of a waste then. I do remember reading on another thread somewhere that GE have a 400w cmh that is 3000k, and the person on that thread was recomending it for flowering over the phillips retro, but i am not sure of the other specs of the GE one. Is the 3000 spectrum better than the 4000 for flowering?
 
I am interested in trying a heath robinson style XOXOX big tree verticle grow in my tent which is 1.2m x 2.4m.
in heaths grow he uses 3 x 600w hps for the two big trees. I am considering to take some advice from BlueB... Use cmh instead of the hps, combined with 2 red led pannels on light movers traversing along the length of front and back of tent (2 separate movers) in a reciprocating nature. This tent would be for flowering only and i would have another half sized tent with 1 verticle cmh to get the veg cycle going. Therefore, i would want to be getting flowering specific led panels. As i save 600 watt by using the 400s that leaves me another 600 (2x300) for the led panels. Any advice on what would be a good serious 300 watt-ish panel for the job?
