Odour Control

Okay so I am looking at carbon filters and need to know if they are installed inside or outside the tent/room. I have an eye on one on eBay which is 4" and going for $10. Should I jump or wait?? Is odour control a necessity.

Yes its necessary. Even with 2 plants they would fill my apartment with that lovely odor. Install it inside the tent and have the fan suck air through it creating negative air pressure so it sucks the sides of the tent in not letting any smell escape. Careful with the fan it can be noisy. Some people have described their fans similar to a jet engine in the room. Get a fan speed controller and duct silencer if sound is an issue for you.

Will all be in the basement. Not a finished basement. God I work for a flood and fire restoration company. Negative air scrubbers used all the time. Blowers fans. All if it. Now we have a claim where there are t5 fixtures which are allegedly garbage.

Odor is definitely a problem and whoever told you that T5's are garbage doesn't know shit from shinola.

No the t5's are free!!! I work for an flood and fire restoration company and these fixtures and lights were deemed non-salvageable. So for nothing I am taking these bulbs and fixtures. Along with a ton of other pet supplies. I looked at these contents last night. All in boxes still!!

Wow dude, that's quite a score! I've got some T5's (as well as HPS & LEDs) and I love them for clones and vegging.

a 4" vent(and scrubber) is not going to move a lot of air, you have a small grow area?

I have made a cabin/tent. About 4x4x4. I have 6" fans coming. God I hope they work. You see I am a girl/female/woman. I have done all this building and wiring myself. Nobody knows what I am doing. Other than the couple of plants outside. I intend on continuing things inside for fall winter. I have a veg area and the cabin is the flower area. Do you have to have everything sealed off. Could I just put lights in an area of the basement. And go. Crawl space no windows = no light.

As long as it is light tight that works. If fact the basement would be great, easier to maintain temps in a bigger area plus you could get some green lights if you wanted to work on them during "lights off" you can have green lights on without interrupting the dark cycle. I'll be all jelly of your basement grow, I used to have abasement, but they don't do well near the ocean :)

Also, can you link the $10 carbon filter you are looking at, sounds too good to be true.

a $10 can filter is a can filter someone has used for 2 years and is worthless. Don't even waste your time, just buy a new one, they're not that expensive.

Do some more reading it always helps, but is that 4x4x4 feet or metre or inches or what? If its is you have (4x4=16) 16 square feet, you will want a slightly larger fan and carbon filter.

Also if you want top quality weed you will need around 50watts of hps lighting (or equivalent) per square foot, so 50 x 16 = 800, So You WILL need 800w of lighting to get top quality weed.

Either use a smaller space or get around 800w of lights and a good fan and filter, unless you don't really care about quality.

And what did you mean by 'Do you have to have everything sealed off' this question is just down right stupid. People don't like helping when your too lazy to help yourself this question doesn't make sense, you NEED TO READ more. Ok its simple if you don't want your house/apartment smelling then you need a carbon filter which gets air pulled or pushed through it (your choice). Also there is usually a lot of heat generated by lights so people exhaust the air out a window or simply into another room to control temperatures. So to answer your very stupid question, if the ventilation system ( fans, ducting, carbon filters ) isn't sealed and has holes/tears/leaks then there is no point in using them, but thats very self explanatory i don't know why you asked this.

To answer your original question if you spend $10 on a carbon filter it will be basically pointless, invest $60 in a good carbon filter if you actually want to get rid of smell plus it will last longer than a cheap one. Honestly unless you live next to no one get a good carbon filter or you can get caught very easily, you wont be happy if you get in trouble with the law especially if you go to jail cause you saved a whopping $50 infact you wouldnt have saved anything cause i guarantee a $10 carbon filter wont work for shit.

800W in a 4x4x4 space would be overkill. Now, if you had 4x4x8, that would be different. Since you have so little headroom, you will need to do short grows, and light penetration will not be as big an issue, you could probably to t5 lighting. Is it possible to go taller?

Not a fucking stupid question. I can grow in my open crawl space. However its huge. I can put plants in there by the dozen or just one. Again I am just starting this and I happen to be a lady.
