Odor question

I'm new to this and am trying to grow 4 or so plants. I'm wondering how concerned about odor I need to be. My plants are in an extra bedroom on the 2nd floor of my house. neighbors on 3 sides and all are fairly close. Will odor masking do it or do I need to plan on some type of carbon scrubbing system. We're not expecting to produce a lot, just what we need.

i got two plants flowering right now and they are stinky as hell. DO NOT open your windows ever. i never open mine unless my odor control is 100% or better. alot of people dont know what weed smells like but alot do. if you dont have a serious odor control, dont open your windows haha.

i've got 4 right now vegged for a couple months and so far I can't smell em outside the room but they are Aurora Indica wich is pretty low odor being a NL cross. You might be allright. On the even brighter side a carbon filter is easy and cheap to DIY if it's needed.

As others mentioned. Just check the DIY section and make one of the carbon filters in there. Will help a load.

Thanks. I've looked at those and it looks pretty easy. I've got it in my head that for that to work the room needs to be sealed and the exaust vented outside. Is that true or can I just build it and stick it in the room with the plants?

I just grew a room full of the Stanky Danky in an apartment with people all over. The carbon filters work. I spent a few extra bucks on a bigger than needed unit and it was worth every penny. ZERO ODOR. I mean in the room it still smelled like the ILLISTOFSUPERCHRON wich is good i still want my weed to smell after harvest. It didnt take me much to seal up the room. I just got some thick dark plastic from home depot and some duck tape and sealed up the window. Then i bought some stuff for the door. I dont know what its called but you will be able to find it easy . Its a foam strip that sticks onto the door jam . like weather stripping or something. Just ask the guy at the store he wiil know what it is. That was enough to get a vacum seal . then i just vented it into the attic as i was on the top floor. but you can vent the air anywher as it doesnt smell!! :blsmoke:

You will need some sort of exhaust for this to work. As far as I know anyway. If your not using the entire room for plants, then try to find a way to seal it off. Get black plastic if need be and make a wall, taping to floor and ceiling. Then just exhaust out into the main room.

I only really used half the room as well. I divided the room with WHITE plastic just to reflect the light . But like i said if you spend an extra 50 bucks or so and go one size bigger on the cCarbon filter and the IN LINE fan you can just exhaust the whole room no worries!:blsmoke: If you do it like dude said than you will have to supplement with CO2. The way i do, the exhausting air will automatically draw in fresh air from all the nooks and cranny's . DONT SEAL UP TO TIGHT! . I really only sealed the window and door so no light would leak. But i left the gap under the door for the fresh air to draw in. YOU NEED FRESH AIR !! for plant growth and temperature control!!:hump: What i do is leave the fan/filter system on 24 /7 for fresh air and odor /temp control.

I had meant to say white plastic, but make sure its thick white plastic and not the clearish white. =D

yes you will need a carbon scrubber. Thats the best way to remove the odor of flowering marijuana plants.
You dont need it in the veg stages either.
And I dont trust the carbon filters either, make sure you get a good carbon scrubber!! with real carbon!!
There is a difference in the carbon filters, and the carbon scrubbers.
I know the carbon scrubbers are more expensive, but the filters simply just dont work!!

I use odor absorbing gel, it is about 3.97 at home depot and comes in an orange or vanilla scent, also for my next grow i am trying a bag of volcanic absorbing rocks in a bag that they sell at home depot as well fr 5.97, the gel worked kick ass for me and my stinky plant, hopefully the new stuff works as well:blsmoke: can't we all smoke a little weed and get along!!:joint:

while i am not currently growing any plants i do use an oder destroying agent for my large stash.

i recently read an article online stating "ONA Block" will kill all strong orders from smoking rooms to bad fish. ONA stands for Oder neutralizing Agent, so it speaks for itself.

this might not be big enough for a large crop but hopefully it will help.
