Obama's Cheif of Staff

Your phrasing was that in order to legalize marijuana the IL constitution would have to be re-written, . You also said that the subject has never come up. Both counts are wrong. If there is another bill coming up, the IL congress would vote in the Spring, see how they voted in May last time? Congress doesn't vote on things at the same time as general elections.

I imagine it will come up again, I'm guessing this year, expecially if Obama stops the DEA from raiding treatment facilities and he said yesterday that he would.

Think happy thoughts, if everyone is always so negative and saying it'll never happen, how do you expect to get anywhere?

I can't give you a link on something that wasn't talked about.

The tried referendum was ONLY about the governor.
The IL house can't pass something already on the books:o...
(medical passed in 1978.)
The revisit of said amendment of the IL constitution is the only way.
wish I could link you to that amendment.
The way it is worded, the whole thing need to be rewritin
and in fact just toss out that amendment, it's only made it harder.
Our fight isn't like other states trying to get reform on the books.
...more like trying to increase federal MMJ stamps.

Medical marijuana hasn't passed in IL. California was the first state to pass medical marijuana and that was just 10 years ago. I think you are confused.

Cannabis Control Act. 720 ILCS 550/

VVV
The bill, introduced by Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago) and co-sponsored by Senators Kwame Raoul
(D-Chicago) and Iris Martinez (D-Chicago), would allow medically ill patients to obtain marijuana -- cannabis --
for medicinal use with the recommendation of their doctor. Illinois led this effort in 1978 when it became the
second state to pass a Cannabis Control Act permitting limited medical use. That law was never fully
implemented, and administrative rules to guide implementation are lacking.
Medicinal use of cannabis has a history dating back thousands of years. Today patients use it for a variety of
serious and debilitating medical conditions: to stimulate appetite in cancer and AIDS; to relieve nausea and
vomiting from chemotherapy; to alleviate the chronic pain and muscle spasticity of multiple sclerosis; to reduce
intraocular pressure in glaucoma, and for many other medical conditions, including some involving anxiety and
mood disturbances. There is no reason to subject such patients to criminal prosecution for cannabis use if their
doctor believes it will help them.
California passed the first effective medical cannabis law in 1996, and 11 states have similar statutes.

I know cancer patients with doctors 'scripts for marijuana in IL, but they can't get it without buying it on the street and risking jail. If you look up states with medical marijuana laws Ill is not one of them. Check the Norml website.

Is this

a current bill? It doesn't say the date anywhere, I hope this is up for vote this spring.

That why it needs to be scrapped.
It's very hard to reform an already bill. Like showing cause
instead of floating it inside of another bill
If you read the whole CCA link, it's a total contradiction.
It's no accident, these slick fucks are something eles..
Like not using the word hemp in the federal bann.

I didn't know IL has MMJ for cancer patients? some good news.

There is no MMJ for cancer patients in IL, there are doctors writing the scripts hoping they will eventually be recognized. If the person is caught with marijuana the doctors script doesn't mean shit. It's still a crime and they still get reamed.

Obama is going to change things after he takes office so the DEA won't go after med states anymore. Once that happens more states will get on board. Since the IL senate almost passed medical marijuana last year, it might get through this year.

THis is the news article that I posted earlier about the IL senate voting on medical marijuana last year.

IL Senate Votes No On Medical Marijuana Bill

The Illinois State Senate voted against SB650, that would have allowed some patients in Illinois to have access to medical marijuana. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on May 11, 2007 ("Illinois Senate Votes Down Medical Marijuana Bill") that "The Illinois Senate, by a narrow 22-29 vote, turned down a bill that would have allowed doctors to prescribe the drug to patients suffering from painful, debilitating conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis or epilepsy. 'This is disappointing,' said Sen. John Cullerton, D-Chicago, the sponsor of the bill. 'I don't think people realize how popular this is in their districts. This is overwhelmingly supported.' Only one Republican, Sen. Dave Syverson, R-Rockford, voted for the bill, while 21 of the 37 Democrats voted for it."
According to the Post-Dispatch, "Much of the testimony in committee and debate on the Senate floor revolved around personal stories of chronically ill patients who illegally use marijuana to relieve their pain. 'I don't think sick people should be treated like criminals,' said Sen. Mike Jacobs, D-Moline. 'This is a choice a doctor ought to have' if there's demonstrated benefits of the drug for patients. Cullerton said he would keep working to get a similar bill passed before the Senate is scheduled to adjourn at the end of the month. Only 29 senators — less than half — voted against the bill. Persuading the four senators who voted present and the four who did not vote would give Cullerton the 30 votes needed for the bill to pass."

It almost squeaked past in 2007, that is last year.

Senator John J. Cullerton, hopes to change the amendment 720/550: the Cannabis
Control Act, to allow more qualifying persons diagnosed with certain debilitating
medical conditions, to grow 12 cannabis plants indoors and have possession of
2.5 ounces of usable marijuana. SB 650 also allows any person over 18 years or
older called a “primary caregiver” to grow 12 cannabis plants indoors for each
of up to three qualifying persons (or 36 plants) and have 7.5 ounces of usable
marijuana in his/her possession. Provides for a “registry identification card”
for each “patient” and for each “primary caregiver” to grow marijuana and to

possess the marijuana even in public and even in a car.

ok, your right and I'm wrong.
it's over.
