Im in orks bro, I have only grown in pots with potting soil and in a few vege gardens with a mixture of compost/potting mix/sheep pellets and never grown any autos before.
Soil for outdoors seems to be rich near lakes and rivers where it gets wet more and that way they can be watered less during the summer :)

Cheers and goodluck!

Woah 50L is huge! I got mine from the warehouse, the 18 litre square pots (about 5 gal) seem to be a good size for the plants i grow in that greenhouse, also because they have good depth and roots should grow downwards, i got 5 of them i think they are $7 each but i got the lot for around $20 on special :) and then my friend gave me 7 clones so i used 2 extra 15 litre round pots (about 4 gal) that i had lying around.

A good rule of thumb I use is 1 gallon per month your plant will be alive, so a 4 month grow you should have atleast 4 gallons :)

LOL sorry dude i was baked these past few days and got the wrong message :eyesmoke:

For my Afghan Kush grow 2 years ago i used Debco Pot Power because a friend recomended it, had very good results and plants grew very well and no deficiencies, only used Watkins Bounty liquid fert and just rain and tap water. Kept it simple and it was great!

Last year i grew White Rhino plants in cheap Just Potting mix from the warehouse, BIG MISTAKE. I used Watkins Bounty and Earth Juice Bloom and Microblast but i had a manesium deficiency half way through the bloom! I guessed the PH probably wasnt stable with the cheaper soil i had used. Also had spider mite problems (remember to mist plants and foliar feed them when growing indoors through the veg cycle)! Managed to control the mites with neem oil but prevention is always better than cure!

This year i have Debco pot power again in 5 pots and Daltons premium potting mix in 2 pots, so far no liquid ferts have been given just letting the roots establish themselves and get nutrients from the soil and the foliage is very green and healthy, i now PH my water to around 6.8 everytime :hump: and measure the runoff PH to see if theres any difference - that way i can tell the soil PH.

IMO it is better to invest a buck into the higher priced potting soil like pot power or daltons and adding some fine pummice to help drainage can go a long way aswel as pot power is a very heavy/water retaining mix of soil! I think these soils provide more long lasting feeding to the plants than the cheap stuff from the warehouse! I also find the PH of these soils to be more stable and there is less things to worry about.

You should have no problems if you keep it simple and keep it green!

sweet man ! i wish we had roots organic or fox farms soil in NZ !!

yea ill go with a soil mix like daltons or debco for the first auto grow, ( because im short on money ) then i think i might make my own soil mix, like with composts and manures in it.

is daltons organic potting mix or yates premium potting mix good ??

peace man !

Quick update for Rtoke:

Never used yates before but heres a picture of the 2 plants in Daltons that are only around 25cm tall and the other 5 that are in Debco pot power are all over 30cm tall!
I think we have a winner already :bigjoint:

So Pot Power is the only one i can really recommend to you as i've used it before with my afghan kush and it was great!

Theres a grow store like SOG in Auckland called "Easygrow" that sells pot power, its also at Kings Garden Centre. Costs around $20 a bag but seems to be worth it!
This is the stuff: http://www.tuigarden.co.nz/show.php?pageid=36

P.S. There was a "grow-off" a while back on that show target where they grew some veges using all different potting soils and pot power came out on top :)
