Nutes?

This is my first grow this year and I'm learning tons. I have made some mistakes and I have had some pretty decent results thus far. I have just about a week ago put a couple babies in the ground and a couple in some 5 gallon buckets(they are about 3 or 4 weeks old). I was just wondering if I could get some advice on what nutes I need to be using. Like a starter nute or something pretty simple. I have been using MG soil with added perlite and some 10-10-10 fert. - Thanks all

Are you usind dwc for your bucket plants? and i would go with advanced nutrients, voodoo juice is a great starter nute as it makes your babies roots go crazy big and covered in fibers. Also their jungle juice system is pretty awesome and is def worth the money. (and pretty idiot proof) If you cant afford that i would just start making a compost, coffee grounds, blueberries, all that jazz, it takes a while but makes your herbs taste great.

I use and organic seaweed extract formula called Maxsea. They make a 16-16-16 and a 0-20-20. You mix one 'heaping' tbs. per gallon of water, it turns anti-freeze green and smells like the ocean. I've tried my hardest to nute burn them but never happens because its make from seaweed! you will also notice results almost immediately. This is only my 2nd grow season so I'm sure there are experts out there that have their food down to a science, but this is a supppper cheap (around $12 or so for a 1.5 lb. container) food that works great! Check out the difference in my picture.

If your growing in soil I would just keep using your 10-10-10 fertilizer. Follow Miracle-Gro's directions and you should be fine. Once you feel like you know how to use the 10-10-10 fertilizer, two a side by side comparisons. Test your fertilizer against any other brand and see which ones do better. I've been doing this myself. I always run one plant in my time tested kellogg patio plus soil and kellogg all purpose organic fertilizer (4-4-4). Then I'll grow more plants in a separate area, usually in containers, with hydroponic nutrients.

Most of the the time the difference in plant height is only a few inches, which I consider to be about neck and neck. I've noticed yield comes more from the genetics than they do from the fertilizer I use. F1 hybrids from seeds or the clones made from topping good hardy plants usually perform the best.
