Ok but the pots get real dry after a few days. Ill wait.

I did find that i had some ph up and down from a fish tank setup last year, I added a like 20 drops of ph up to the nutrient gallon and it still didnt raise it. How do you guys raise it?

Do you flush with tap water? what is the ph of your tap? Should i just flush with tap water and keep the r/o water??

I ph my tap water (filtered thru a brita filter) down to 5.8 to flush (ph of rain) why I said just use the ro water, but if your ro supply is limited then you can use tap water ph'd down (I use apple cider vinegar, works great and is cheap)


and your still going by that moisture meter saying they will dry out in 4 days, need to let that go and learn to read the plants!

Whats wrong with the meter? the meter works great, just i wasnt watering enough between feedings to help flush out the build up of salts. My fault for not watering properly. Yeah 36 gallons of R/O water is going to be rough to come up with. It would take me like a week to come up with that. Maybe i will just ph my tap water instead. You think it would be ok to flush them now with the lights off 0r wait till the morning?

Your having problems and still saying the meter works great????

trust me they are crap and depending on them will just keep your growing status at NooB, you will continue to have problems. That is what moisture meters are good for,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,creating problems

Best time to flush is 1 hour after lights on

Ok well i guess im a noob for life. I have done great up to this point and will learn to at least use a flush at some point mid flower. I think I have done a good job thusfar. You oppose the meter, im for it. Lets get over that. Plus the meter isnt the problem here, its the build up of nutes on a 12/12 from seed that is half the size of a normal plant. On any other circumstance (normal grow i mean) i might not have the build up of nutes because the plant might be using more.(Being a bigger plant on a normal grow)

Your the one who started the argument. Not me. Im simply defeding my growing technique. Your is different accept that. Your 30+ years just confirms your an old bitter man, set in his way and its either your way or the highway. Anyways thanks for the advice and learn to keep an open mind instead of thinking everything has to be YOUR way....DAD.

PS your teaching abilities are not very good, but your experience is.
 
if your using ff its ph balanced and will lower the ph a few tenths after feed or water but you can check your soil with test vile and tablets or ph test meter there are few different tools you can use depends on what you wanna spend go shoppin and get these tools they are a must for the indoor garden good luck brotha

I have a ph meter coming in the mail the next couple of days. So there is no need to trya and alter the ph of the nutes? just keep an eye on the soil ph? Would sound right, if i notice the ph of the soil raising or falling i can adjust with properly ph'ed water? Thanks for the advice! That meter was the only one that i didnt have before this grow. Thats why this grow is bag seed...Learn before getting into the store bought seeds.

I'm not bitter (I am old) and I actually was a teacher (for awhile) I simply enjoy my time spent at RIU so much that I prefer to help those that want to learn, I don't like to argue

There is not one experienced grower here that I know that uses a moisture meter and it would be a safe bet that they feel the same way as I do about them.

look at the bad advice you got in this thread before I came

I would rather help than argue so I'm gonna ask you to read my calling all noob growers thread and see if you still think I'm a bad teacher?

water does not change the ph of soil, soil is a buffer and keeps the ph fairly solid unless you add a bunch of stuff that changes it like nutes

Yes thank you for answering my questions, it was very much appreciated. But your comments were geared toward someone who is completely stupid of growing and im not. Im sure you assumed that since i used a moisture meter. I dont grow in a cardboard box with 2 23 watt CFLs and using miracle grow soil. (check out my grow and honostly say im a complete noob) You didnt know that so its not your fault for comeing across like you did in your posts. I will DEFINATLY take your advice and use it.

So if i water with 7.8 ph tap water and my soil is 6.5 it wont raise it at all? Maybe im looking at this all wrong then.

Have ya seen the pic that floats around here that shows the ph at which nutes are used by the plant?

here is what happens in the real world,,,,,,,,it rains (ph of rain is 5.6 to 5.8) the soil gets drenched (similar to flushing) nutes in the soil are activated by the rain and the sun comes out, the plant starts wicking water as this happens the soil buffers the ph and it goes back up to where it was before the rain as this happens the plant takes up nutes in the appropriate ph range

hope that makes sense

and I'm reading your journal, light box is cool (I once had a similar idea, never built it) but is overkill (not trying to start another arguement)

Oh that makes sense. So just getting the water the correct ph and keeping it conistant is the key in these small containers? yeah I got stoned and built the box, thats one reason im not using all the light sockets (I was overthinking things too much...lol). Next box is definatly going to be a HPS system and bigger. although I just got my electric bill this month with that box running all month long and i have to say its not much more than normal. Which im happy about.
 
Well I flushed this morning. Yeah im glad i did that because the first half of the flush per pot the water was yellow, not real yellow just a tint. Then half way through the flush the water runoff was clear. From now on each watering will be enough to produce plenty of runoff and not just to get the soil wet to avoid any salt build ups. My fault for not watering correctly. Thanks riddleme for the instructions. I didnt quite get the 36 gallons but around 30. All but 5 gallons were ph'ed to 6.5. Then I finished each pot with a gallon of 6.0 R/O flush. Which was alot for my little plants. Now ill wait about 4-5 days and water again? or feed at half strength? still dont know how to ph the nutrient gallon, its still waayyyy low. Baking soda?
 
Well all but the big plant is stable now. Big plant is not stable. The leaves on the big plant are still going downhill. I know its been a few days since the flush but do you think I just need to wait and see if it stabalizes or should i do another flush? She still has 2-3 weeks left.

Come on guys I need some advice please...
