The number of patients in Michigan's medical marijuana program declined for the second year in a row in 2014, according to state statistics reviewed by The Detroit News.

Last year, the number of identification cards for patients in the program totaled 96,408, according to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. That compares with 119,470 patients in 2011, and 118,368 in 2013.

The downward trend continued in Metro Detroit, too, with the number of medical marijuana patients falling in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties for a third straight year.

In Wayne County, the number dropped from 14,169 in 2013 to 12,258 last year. Since 2011, participation has dropped 20 percent, from 15,385.

Oakland County's patient ranks declined from 10,741 in 2013 to 9,330 in 2014. Since 2011, participation has dropped 22 percent, from 12,083.

Macomb County's number of patients in the state medical marijuana program dipped from 7,997 in 2013 to 7,644 last year. Since 2011, participation has fallen 10 percent, from 8,499.

Too bad they don't show the number of pain prescriptions and alcohol sales, I wonder if those sales are also in a decline, maybe people are just leaving Michigan and moving to other states ?

I'll tell you why..just like here in Colorado...

Dispensaries dont give a shit about you..they all want $$$$$. I am pulling my count once I get my tent going. I have been signed to a disensary for almost 2 years and have recieved nothing as far as member benifits..jus sayin..well a birthday eighth.

I have a buddy who gets a free OZ ever quarter(90 days) from a dispensary here in colorado

I waited a few months after my first MM card expired. I stocked up right before and was good for a bit.

Those medical records also are driving up the cost for some folks, it cost me $130 for a full set of Xrays and a detailed report on my conditions--I could have done just half of my problems for $70 but screw it, they needed my medical records, they got them, lol..Then I had to pay $100 to the clinic and $100 to the state. $330 for my MM card it cost me, thats BS when I could have gotten some pain meds from my local doctor for much less $.

Least the cards are good for 2 years now--why the state believes my conditions are going to get better and not worst overtime, I got no idea. My drivers license is good for 4 years, my passport is good for 10 years, yet my MM card is good for only 2 years and costs the most $, lol

There not, I have closely watched the pharm industry numbers for each year and opiates are always going up. In 2012 big pharms total were 800 million and some change in 2013 it tipped 1 billion and 2014 is expected to be around 1.2b

Hmmm, well if your on probation, your doctor can OK U to take opiates but not MM and IMO, its easier then ever to find oneself on probation or in jail.

well no fucking shit. we have the most fucked law in the country with regards to mmj, the twats in lansing can't seem to figure out how to get legislation in place that actually works, patients have to shit up a couple of c notes just for the permission slip that allows them to fill a fucking prescription, cops and prosecutors running around fucking up people's lives and people wonder why an industry that's always been underground is showing signs of going right back to the shadows.
i'd venture to say the time is getting closer to not being able to get guilty verdicts on mmj charges. the people spoke, got fucked, are still getting fucked and should be wondering just how much more shit do we take?

Wait till the twats declare it legal and want massive taxes on it and find themselves talking to an empty room......

If people didn't need their cards for dispensaries or events, most people I know wouldn't get their card at all.

As far as michigan marijuana laws, I'm pretty sure we have one of the best mj laws in the country. It just still sucks. There are 50 states. With-out even looking, we MUST be in the top 10 for state mj laws. Having any mj law at all automatically puts you in the top half...

True true, MI isn't California or Colorado but it sure isn't like NY or Illinois.

That MM card protects U more then one might first believe, yeah its not bullet proof but its far better then not having one. Those who take no other drugs, not even booze, can say that MM is the reason why, I know in my case it is.

I just wish my MM card was good in other states, if I was on pills, I could take them to the beach but not my MM, thats unfair, lol
