Nuggs 2015 russet mite war

Well, since a lot of my knowledge has been passed down through stoner science, I found this article that explains it better. Basically the beneficial bacteria and resulting acids from letting milk and rice water ferment will fight mold and PM, and boosts the plants health.

"In this study, 13 lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains (including 5 Lactobacillus casei, 2 Lactobacillus rhamnosus, 2 Lactobacillus fermentum, 1 Lactobacillus acidophilus, 1 Lactobacillus plantarum, 1 Lactobacillus sakei, and 1 Lactobacillus reuteri species) were assessed for both their antifungal activity against four food spoilage molds (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Botrytis cinerea, Penicillium expansum, and Aspergillus flavus) and their capability to produce the novel antimicrobial compound 3-phenyllactic acid (PLA). Results demonstrated that all molds were sensitive to varying degrees to the cell-free supernatants (CFS) from LAB"

I have a thread outlining the process of making it in the organic forums here.

thanks I'll study it soon. I need to work on tea's and micro beastie's.

I haven't used these in my indoor grows much. However I can't see how it could be harmful.

The stuff is safe for human consumption, it's what is in probiotic capsules.

The idea is that the lactobacillus outcompetes bad/harmful bacterias and benefits the plant.

757 the problem is they multi so fast the lady bugs won't get them all. In my experience with lady bugs is they fly away. You put them out and a couple hours latter they are gone. they work but not good enough to eridacate the borg.
Exactly. I found an entire ladybug breeding ground at a lake once and filled a backpack full off them. Within a few days most of them were gone. Then I had to resort to spraying and ended up killing most of what was left. I hate introducing beneficials I know I will just have to kill off later. I like someone's suggestion of waiting until late in the season to introduce predatory pests, after the spraying regimen is done.

hey nuggs you go fishing today??
you ever foliar feed a alfalfa tea with some high N fish to "PUSH" your plants to veg and not flower??
i know its not nice to "push" plants but i have found the TRIA(alfalfa) and nitro combo to help the plant keep growing during confusing times

Great info. I love alfalfa teas. I need to get another 50 lb sack of alfalfa. I used the last in my soil mix. I do have some in my homemade liquid ferts. Just rehydrated kelp and alfalfa, run through the blender so it's ready to use by the tbs. I've just been learning over the last 6 months more about plant hormones, enzymes, and all that.

I think the clones do better without the hps. The dude at gro biz told me t5 is best for rooting. I'm not sure but had good luck with.my first round of cuts with.the hps.
Less is more for rooting IMO. CFL's do just fine or a small T5. Too much light just pushes for veg growth and stresses the system when they need to be rooting. But I find everyone has their own way of cloning and most ways work just fine. All a matter of preference as long as you get your roots. So what strains did you end up running this year? As you can see I'm still trying to catch up on the thread.

sorry to be obscure ;(
ingredients.
dnya gro protec. at 1/4 teaspoon per gallon.
dyna gro neem at 1 t. per gallon
yucca schidigera or aloe at 1t per gallon
1.)warm up some water on the fire, stove or what have you. about a gallon is what i do . to body temp.70-80*
2.)mix warm neem with protec in mason jar.
3.) mix yucca or aloe or bronners in warm water
4.) add neem / protect mix to warm water.
5.) mix one gallon with larger amount of water for mass root drench .

WHY :
Many insecticides break down quickly. They wash away with rain, or when irrigating, or the sunlight destroys them. You either have to spray all the time, or you have to spray something that's so stable that it stays around forever. That means the chemical builds up everywhere and eventually poisons everything, including you.

Neem oil breaks down very quickly, too. It is especially susceptible to UV light. But neem oil is also a systemic insecticide. That means you can pour it on the soil (not pure neem oil of course, you use a dilution or extract) and the plants absorb it. They take it up into their tissue, and it works from the inside. A leaf hopper may take a couple of bites, but that's it.

However, this does not work for all insect species. The neem ingredients accumulate in the tissues deeper inside the plant. The phloem, the outermost layer, contains hardly any. A tiny aphid feeds from the phloem, it can not penetrate deep enough to get a dose of neem. But any leaf hoppers, grass hoppers or similar chomping insects will be incapacitated quickly.

People eat neem leaves to cleanse the blood, stimulate the liver, and boost the immune system. So we certainly don't need to worry about a bit of neem inside our lettuce leaves. To me this is a much more attractive option than having poisonous foulicides build up in my garden.
There's neem oil in my shampoo and lots of beauty products too. When a neighbor kid had lice I gave her mom neem oil to wash her hair with and that was the end of that problem. I've got a batch of neem meal bubbling now in 20 gallons of water to do a root drench tomorrow. Kelp and neem will piss off pests while pleasing my plants. :)

looking forward to hearing what they tell you Nuggs.

...I saw mites again...the dark ones. not going to spray anything else though. I will bomb the room after though. The greenhouse has been bleached down twice now and should be ready to go. Still have to get the DE.

Oh yeah...I ordered that scope with the LCD screen that you have...it will be here Tuesday! Can't wait!
I'd love a link to the scope you guys have.

You are not going to like What I have to say now MO. Russet mites on a plant producing seed live in the seed as it grows and go dorment. They will winter over in the seed until they germinate. pop and a new generation of russet is born. this is why we are having such a hard time controlling the bugs.
I've read that they can live on the seed, but I can't find anything about them living inside a seed. I think it would be safe to rinse seeds in a pesticide of your choice before sprouting. Or
just pop them in the freezer and freeze the bastards.

ok guys...i am going to chop them today. They still have the dark mites, but that is all I see. Will the mites die as the plant dries, or will they keep eating my girls? How should I go about drying them?
A few years ago I was battling spider mites. When I harvested the infested plants I hung them from clips hanging from a chain. I came back in the next day and every bug had traveled up to the highest point and there were clusters of them trying to find a new home. Wherever you dry should be far from any growing plants and easy to
quarantine.

@ABM I found 2 pic's of the bananna kush that brought in the russet mite 2013. This was the first sign of any problem in my garden. I've been fighting them since. I think I have them now. This was the source of my infection.

Keys thanks for posting the pic.!
Is there anything else that causes leaf edges to curl like that? I had a clone that was like that, but she flowered out with no problems, and I can't see anything with my scope so I'm confused.

I had a plant last year that looked like this but probably worst. I thought it was because of something I sprayed on it in the sun or to strong of a mix.. It healed it's self and turned out ok and really frosty. Makes me wonder if our few weeks of 110 degree weather killed the mites or what was actually the deal. I thought I had them inside too with the same symptoms but could not scope a single bug.
That's exactly what I'm talking about. I got what I believe is a good scope that hooks to my computer and claims to have a 200x mag. I'm tempted to have nuggs take a look some day.

yeah thats the real deal. If you use azatrol or asamax or azasol they are a derivitive of this seed.
in auburn at the hydro store they have neem seed in bulk. I suggest mixing the need seed in the soil to aid the other neem products. neem is great . only thing I don't agree with in the article is mixing in dish soap. soap works well in controlling bugs but after repeated applications the residual build up can cause problems. IMO
I'm the one who got the owner to finally start selling the neem meal. ;) He's such a great guy.

Nuggs, I'm not sure if I missed it or what but what happened at that meeting?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Rollitup mobile app
The meeting went so well. Only 1 member of the board of supervisors voted for the ban, and all the rest seemed really cool. Even the sheriff was fair in his statements. He told them that most growers are in compliance and most complaints they get are from old people who don't understand medical marijuana laws. There was only 2 people that I remember speaking against growing, with a long line waiting to speak in our defense. Professionals and citizens of all sorts. I was very proud of our community. They decided to put it off until 2016 and reconsider after the state makes their
moves.

Well I hope you enjoyed the read. I haven't gone back and read it over yet. Did you get anything out of it? The scope we ordered from Best buy. they have two . one is $90 the other $150. Having a good camera and knowing how to use it is the best though.
