NSA runs wild

Greetings, I would like to know what you think about the NSA's surveillance of US citizens. Is it warranted to protect the nation from global terrorism, or do you think that it is an infringement on one's liberty and civil rights, and should be stopped immediately? Is it necessary in today's world and worth the cost, or this the beginning of the road to a totalitarian state where secret courts, and the surveillance of it's citizens are the norm? It seems we are approaching that world, if not being actually there, one where there are cameras everywhere, and phone calls and emails are scrutinized by the government. What's the best course of action? Do we give up some liberties, or refuse to give an inch? Oh by the way, sales of George Orwell's "1984" have skyrocketed over 3,000% since the NSA's activities became public knowledge, according to the Atlantic wire. Interesting.

I think you got your answer already.

I am truly ashamed of the response to this leak. I have been called a conspiracy nut by so many folks it is silly. Now the truth is exposed and still nobody seems upset at all. We should be replacing our failed government. Instead it is business as usual. What the fuck happened to us?

Look at what Iceland did to their leadership when central banking failed and the debt was going to be passed to the people in taxes. They ousted the bankers, part of the government and wrote a new constitution to prevent a repeat situation. We tolerate the bankers AND a unconstitutional government.

Turkey protests their government too for the infringement of rights.

I guess we have had our freedom for too long and it is now taken for granted. Maybe we are a nation of pussies?

Bullshit!!!

Tey should shift the funding from the war on drugs to the war on terror. They dont need more laws or tech. They need better investigators, detectives, and local cops who KNOW how to really police and respect people.

I just read about a fugitive member of the Japanese Red Army (a 1970's and 80's terrorist group) that was apprehended with pipe bombs years back on the Jersey Turnpike. He got arrested at a rest stop when a cop noticed he was acting strange.

Thats thekind of training and patrolling modern cops need. Instead the academies are turning out class after class of armed goons with no common sense.

I think this 'revelation' is far more sinister than surveillance, as if that's not bad enough.

atm and over the next decade, tech companies will be developing wireless internet technologies and devices that are implanted into our homes and even our bodies. I think the jargon is 'the internet of things'.

What we're seeing here is the foundation to not only 'total' surveillance but 'total' control. .... Today thousand of people have wireless pacemakers that can accessed online, In the future are bodies may be regulated with similar devices to either dispense medicine or repair cells. Apple are developing internet googles that have cameras and microphones... If they sell like the iphone thats 100 million spies for the NSA to hack into whenever.

50 - 100 years from now embedded devices could be the norm. ... coupled with the next gen of quantum 'spy' computers ..... and advances in human dna sequencing and its beginning to look like a distopian world in a bad scifi novel ..... only its real and probably inevitable.

it is absolutely wrong and i also dont understand at all why people arent rising up and protesting. america is going down the drain, no one cares anymore because even with all the b.s. they still get to live their plush little lives with all their technology and reality shows, our nation has become the epitomy of what our founding fathers were trying to escape. remember the riots in the 90's? why isnt that happening all over the country right now? i just dont understand the complacency.

Fear paralyses us as a species from taking action and even asking questions. ... Its likely why this story has broke this week.

I'm no expert in this subject (or any other), but I knew this was going on 10 years ago, I remembering posting comments that said as much months ago.

So ... why now? ... I suspect this was a sanctioned leak. and that 'they' want to scare dissenting minds to keep them from asking questions. This technique is so simple and has been written about extensively.

Humans faced with more than a couple of major stressors tend to shut down. Again, indicated in old studies and well understood by the powers that be.

The lawsuits are just beginning to show up. Watch this one, it should be interesting watching the government squirm. I can hear it now, Bush started it, we just never stopped it, and it is probably true, but Obama is going to get all the heat. Poor guy:sad:

He deserves the heat for expanding those surveillance powers and talking out of both sides of his ass.

They also indicted most of them including the Prime Minister at the time of the crisis, Geir Haarde, he was cleared of serious wrongdoing but was found guilty, basically of neglecting the duties of his office.

Iceland Indicts 15 Over Financial Crisis
