Hoping someone can advise, and apologies diving straight with a thread despite some answers in the search but here goes

grow went quite well (1st time), just flushed and got them hanging to dry, been hanging 4 days and have now got a grass smell to them rather than weed smell

really want them to come out good with good smell and good smoke And having searched some say harvest too early some say it’s normal (confident not gone early, plenty of brown/amber). The beaches currently bend and don’t snap

Is this normal ?
how long time dry ? (Still not snapping)
How long in jars ?
when will that excellent smell return ?

thanks

i screwed up my first plant by drying it too quickly. temps were 20-25c when they should have been around 15C. humidity is important also, around 50 is good. second plant dried alot better but still not great. 4 days to dry for first plant second took 7 days. next time im aiming for 10 days dry. cutting stems off the plant can dry quicker, cutting the plant at the bottom (in one piece helps to dry longer). do your homework bud, i still have a container of quick dried crap that i put in the bong just because i cant bring myself to throw it out.

It "can" go away if it was cut at the right time.

It doesn't sound like it's fully dry either which can be misleading on smell.

If you chopped it early it will most likely stay that way.

Got any pics of the plant close to chop?

I see 4 days. I have to go to bed so il just explain the possible messups that can lead to crappy weed.

1: Not drying in total darkness. Total darkness stops photosynthesis of the plant. This is a big factor in drying your weed correctly.

2: drying too fast. If you dry your weed too fast you lock in the chlorophyll. That is where the hey smell comes from.

You should be shooting for 60 degrees with 60% rh (relative humidity) for about a 2 week dry to do it right.

4 days is way too fast. 7 days imo is way too fast.

Once it's actually dry and cured properly. Takes about 3 months for a proper cure in the jars.

But again the dry time matter a tremendous amount for that to happen.

Yes, good smell will return after you dry and cure. Most of my harvests had that grassy/hay smell at some point during dry process. Good smell will be back when your plant is dry enough and after around 2 weeks in a jar.

if the bud smells like grass at any point you harvested a bit early. but the drying room can smell like grass a little bit especially if you do a dry trim (meaning u leave all the fan leaves on the plant to dry with the buds)... pinch the buds and smell your fingers it should smell like buds and your fingers should stick together. if not you harvested very early.

For a actual full proper cure. Proper being the operative word. 3 months is where it lands.

Doesn't mean you can't smoke it as it's curing. After about 2 weeks it will be mmmmky.

3 months it will taste and smell like it came from the dispensary. If it was cut at the right time and dried correctly.
