Not sure what's wrong.. first grow

Could somebody please take a look at these plants and tell me what's wrong with them? ive been through all the stickies already and i cant find any one thing that looks like this, maybe one of you have had this problem and know what to do?

I just checked out the fertilizer burn section of that guide. I agree with Thewinghunter on the nute burn.
Thanks i thought that was what it looked like too, the funny thing is though, i havent given them ANY nutes so far, other then what was in the soil. i almost killed one of them when i started cus i gave it too much nutes so ive been afraid to start the nutes up again.

I was growing under 2 40 watt fluoros, just moved to one 500w halogen, yeah i know they suck but thats all i have the money for right now lol. in dirt using miracle grow potting mix and i know that sucks too but i havent had the money to get online and get some perlite and earth worm castings to make my own.

the plants are about 2 feet away from the light and it is not hot at all so i that rules out heat burn i think.

I would say you should flush your soil really well and try to just water them until they start changing. If the leafs start to yellow a little you should start with the nutes. If that doesn't help I would say what kind of soil are you using for this grow? Some MG (Miracle Grow) has too many nutes in the soil already for bud plants. Hope this helps ;)

thank you for the info, i got the best that i could find around, it had around .2 percent of N and .19 P and i think .07 K
im not sure how this corralates to the normal amount of nutes as ive never done the math lol, but i didnt think this was enough to burn my plants all up.
what is really confusing me is how the leaves at the bottom are all turning yellow which leads me to think that they arent getting enough nutes, yet at the top of the plant they look nute burned.. =C
the only thing i can think of is that maybe the PH of my water is off, possibly drastically.i cant find my freakin pool testing kit.. got packed away for winter and all the stores dont have them out yet so im SOL
what im asking really is could the PH do this? ive read that it can lead to nute lock out, but im not sure what it is till i find my testing junk

also, im using tap water that's been filtered and i let it sit for a day or so before i water to get rid of the chlorine

Did you start having this burn problem when you put it under the 500 watt halogen??? Those things put out A LOT of heat.. If you dont have a fan on your plants or to circulate air, i'd get one..

For the chlorine you can distill your water by first boiling it then chilling it and then you can use that for an even more filtered water. As far as the Ph is concerned I can guarantee you that this will look the same as nute burn or very similar. I would suggest going online and ordering a General Hydroponic Ph testing kit. The kit includes 1 bottle of green/purple drops and a vial.

Usually from $3-$10 or $20 for a large kit which includes the drops, vial, dobber, Ph up and Ph down.

I will look right now to see if I can find a store online that is decent priced.

Wow I just read this. Throw that fucking thing away man. It will kill your plants. It is a waste of electricity and puts out too much heat as opposed to lumens. Best thing you can do for the money problem is grow using CFLs (compact florescent lighting) from Wal-Mart for like $11 for an 8 pack. (1) 8 pack would grow 2 plants comfortably. Your halogen light is killing your plants. I would suggest moving back to the tube lights. Check out https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/286576-my-first-riu-grow-journal.html and see my "low budget" grow to see how I managed. To start it I put about $150 into it and the rest was extra expenses that I really didn't need at the time. The $150 was my mylar, cfls, fixtures, pots, soil, fans. I spent 150 on a complete small closet set up and was growing (well I might add) 21 plants.

Yeah fuck that light. its about as good as those 2 floros in usable light. and its HOT!!! That and the infra red they put off (are they starting to stretch yet?), the wrong spectrum, AND the fact its far away because if it wasnt your plants would shrivel up and die from the heat. Get yourself a 150watt hps or better soon.

lumens mean nothing to plants. Its great for comparing bulb technologies efficiency but a miserable measurement for what amount of light plants actually use. Its best to veg with either LED's or a metal halide. In flowering an HPS is desirable.

I will note that metal halide buds will be the most potent but your weight will suffer comparatively. Do not look directly at Metal halides as they produce high levels of ultraviolet light which a particular spectrum encourages the conversion of CBD's into THC, resin production increase, and trichome production.

I stated lumens for the purpose of a first time grower and it will help understand a lot about your lighting. As far as lumens are concerned though pertaining to plants, it is actually a way of measuring the amount of light output of a bulb rather than what the plant can use. Cfls have been proven to provide a nice growing environment for plants and can be categorized by their watts, lumens, and kelvins. In regards to the botany portion of it the lumen property of a bulb is quite useless. The amount of light able to be used by a plant can be measured by many things, spectrum, lux, wave, chlorophyll energy consumption, and many other things. Here are just a few pictures of lights as they pertain to plants.

With no ill will of the advice submitted by Canna but I am not only a grower of cannabis but of many other plants also as well as some courses of botany. I knew what I was talking about :D Thanks for pointing that out though.

ahh alright i will definitely be checking the ph and i know that light blows like the wind.
i have been tight on cash and that looked like a decent solution till my birthday which is coming up here shortly, should get like 300 for it and im gonna get like a 600w HPS with an MH conversion bulb or something of that nature, i would have started out with this set up but i lost my job a month or two ago cus i got burned in a fire and couldnt work for ONE week WITH a doctors note so they fired my ass.. so that is why i have been short on funds lol.
to answer that one question, they are stretching quite a bit =C i didnt know what else to do, i knew i needed a new light for going to flower and i didnt have the money, now im kinda sorry cus they went from dense 1 1/2 foot tall to stretched out 2 and a half feet tall... its kind of sad really

i know this is a long post but one more question, will my plants be okay for the next 2 or so weeks till i can get a new light? i know they are stretching and not getting the right light but i cant move them back to where they were cus they are wayy too high for my closet grow area now.

Trust me if you have a Wal-Mart near you, you should go and get some cfls. Here is a link to the lights I used.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/GE-Energy-Smart-CFL-Light-Bulb-26-Watt-6-Pk/9855132
My Wal-Mart sold them in 8 packs(or so I thought) for $11.99.

More than likely if you don't change your lights you will kill your plants...
alright thank you, i would like to just go straight to hps/mh though, i dont want to spend 100 on setting up a bunch of cfls and then turning around and getting a good light.
will they be okay for the next 2-3 weeks do you think? they are still growing, stretching.. but growing nontheless, i plan on just flowering these ones off and getting rid of them and learn off this grow for the next one.
got 5 white widow seeds that i plan on germinating in the next few days so they are ready for when i do get a new light, i want to do the next grow alot better.
i almost killed these from the day i planted them and never really expected them to grow, in fact i am AMAZED that they have lasted this long. i almost killed them with nutes about a week after planting from SEED lol.. first mistake..
second mistake was lights got unplugged for 2 days straight by accident about 2 weeks in, 3rd was not checking ph...
i believe the next grow will go alot better since i now know what not to do.

Good attitude and great outlook on the aspect of growing. +Rep for learning what Not to do and how to have the attitude of a grower.

ha ha thank you, and i do intend to try, try again. i love smoking it and i would love to figure out EXACTLY how to grow some nice weed.
i took your advice and looked at that ph stuff i think its nice thank you for your time in finding it for me, if i could ask one more thing though.. what nutes should i be using? i want good ones that arent too expensive but dang it i cant figure out just what to get lol.
