Not grounding a 1000w MH ballast? Bad?

I have a place where it is very difficult to find a ground.

I have the adapter to go from a 3 prong to a 2 prong.

Will NOT GROUNDING a 1000w mh/hps ballast hurt the ballast or the bulb itslef?

Or is the grounding all just for our safety?

Safety. Throw a gfci outlet in there and your covered. If there was ever a short in the ballast oranywhere and you touch it you can electrocute yourself easier. With a ground, if there's a short it will travel the easiest way to ground, through wire. A gfci gives you ground protection by breaking the circuit if there's a short

ive never heard of the adapter but it seems like a good concept.

im no electrician but as far as i understand grounding is just that, attatching the unit to the ground somehow. that being said, couldnt you just run a wire to the ground from the unit? i wouldnt try tampering with your electrical but im curious.
