Not Flushing? SeeMoreBuds

actually, you could have the unit set up with a very slight tilt, not enough to alter performance but enough to aid drainage. ya dig?

Flushing is a remedy for mediums which contain chemicals that will have a negative reaction within burning Cannabis. These chemicals are primarily Nitrogen & Sulfur. If you wish to avoid a flush, you may do so by adapting your feeding schedule during the flowering cycle. Instead of flooding your system with plain water, switch to a formula which contains little to no Nitrogen & Sulfur. If growing in soil, it is even easier avoiding a flush. Soil can be enriched with Fish, Blood, & Bone meals in addition to a small amount of secondary/micro nutrients you add through the fertilizer of your choice, pay attention to the chemical analysis, & seek out the elements you're missing. Soil so enriched with attention paid to a full nutritional program can be grown from start to finish on plain water, effectively making their entire life cycle a "flush". If your final product displays traits such as turning black rather than grey or white when burned down to nothing, or extremely bitter flavor in your smoke, reduce the ammount of Nitrogen (usually in the form of Blood Meal) to compensate so that your plants fully utilize all of the Nitrogen & Sulfur present in the soil before they finish.

I'm so with you on this. I really don't know how I'm going to flush my system. There are a million ways I've thought of that are possible, but none seem easy and free. Plus many of the ideas I have include potentially dangerous situations for my plants.

I think I will just get a fish tank water pump and drop that thing in there with a hose going to a fitting along the top rim. I'm hoping I can then take another hose for when I change the res, and hook it up to this fitting, then just run it to the bath tub or something.

Setting it on blocks seems like not that great of an idea for me, because then I have to fill something up that is only 6 inches high, taking trips to dump that out. Having 30 gal. that is a lot of trips and waiting. Plus that cuts out 6 inches of my closet. The vertical space is all I have to work with, and I don't want to give it up for water issues.

I'm also doing a scrog so picking the lid up high enough for the roots to clear the rez would be impossible (nevermind my plants are going to weigh 5 pounds each ).

Like you I have spent much time thinking about this. With all the parts of getting the first grow set up, THIS is the problem that has me most vexed (and it's super funny, because it is seemingly one of the simplest to solve).

I really 'want' to try not changing the rez at all. I have read many places of people saying they have done this. Even with DWC. I'm not saying it is optimal, but rather desirable. However, I'm not willing to risk a whole grow to experiment. I feel trapped.

Yeah, I think Im going to see if I can go the whole grow with 1 or 0 rez changes in my aero set up. Im just going to top everyday, and watch my plants / ppm / ph and make sure everything is fine, flush when i need to or at flowering.

The way I am going to flush I think is by building a drain on the bottum of my setup, and a funnel in the top to run water through and push water/old nutes out the drain.
