Yeah, put your hand right above your plants. Does it feel hot? or even a little hotter than if its not there? If it is, move them away further.

If you put your thermometer right by the soil, you're getting radiant temp, not air temp....Radiant temp can hit 40-50 degrees C and the plants should be fine, but if you have the air temp (not in the light but in the room) above 80-85 you need to get some vents or something.

Dang man, what strain again? I just germed a few of my JF seeds again, two nights in my germ box in a bag with wet paper towel ready. Then they go in Oasis cubes, then right in my Rainforest with GH seedling level nutes plug in turn on CFl, wait. I vent the cab into a 10 inch duct but no fan. Check water level every three days.

I could give you a DIY, really a killer setup. But honestly, chuck those soil things. Germ new seeds and order this.

I think price is fair, you get EVERYTHING you need sans a ph kit ($14) and I have never had to adjust my Ph the nutes handle it and I have some crazy water. Do what I said and you will have great plants. Seriously, it is what I do, this is what you get.

Hell I will give you a few seeds to germ I'm so sure it will work:joint: FUCK SOIL

Id say the lights are too close for the young seedlings.CFLs get hot.Make sure you have the correct blue light spectrum cfls and not the red spectrum and keep them about 6 inches away for 2 weeks or til the plants get a few leaves.I prefer a 4 foot shop light as its much beter then the cfls to start out with and has no heat

pull the lights up higher until they get bigger, dont over water, and no fan until the get alittle bigger.. heat may be an issue. what are your temps?

its the light cycle i tried 24/0 and it killed my plants too, so I switched to 18/6 they are doing alot better now if this doesnt help then i dont know whats wrong.

Hope you don't mind me asking a question in your thread -

I was using 2 fluorescent tubes for my seedlings. Today I am transplanting to a hydro drip system.

I built 2 light strips each holding 6 compact fluorescent bulbs - each cfl bulb is 26 watts (total 12).

I did notice that they burn much hotter than the tubes. My plants are currently 2 - 3 inches high.

How far should I keep those bulbs away from the plants?

Thanks!!

4-5 inches should be cool but just put your hand underneath the lights and see how warm it is on your hand and adjust according to that.
