Hello,
This is my first grow and i know im going to need some help so any comments are mor ethen welcome. Yesterday i started germination and there in the paper towels now. I have 5 northern light feminised autos and 5, 3 gallon pots. I am growing in a closet 7 feet tall, adn 3x4. I live no where near a good organic store so i have to use Scotts potting soil from home depot, and got 12 of each CFL's 27w 2700k and 5500k. I was told if using Scott's i should put sand on top to stop gnats? also do i need to purchase any nutes even tho the bag says there is a time release. If anyone can help please post on here i will post pics up tomoro or as sooon as there done germing and in the pots. :leaf::leaf::leaf:

I've seen a few gnats in my tent, but they might have died off. I have also heard those soils contain gnats. I thought the sand technique was to get rid of gnats instead of a preventative measure. If you've got chemical time release nutes in your soil that can be very bad indeed. You can burn up your sprouts, it's not organic and you can easily overdose on fertilizer. I've never used that medium but I used Miracle Grow potting soil once and I absolutely hated it. Gnats, nute burn and root rot from too much moisture.

Are those Nirvana, Northern light Auto's?... or other?

i use very light seeding soil for the first 2 weeks ... then move them to larger containers to finish in lightly ferted soil and perlite. (its recomended to germ and put auto's straight in 3-5gal pots start to finish, but i don't have room with whats already growing)... time release nuted soil is satans sh*t

without a doubt ... and heaps of it :-)

have a read through some soil making threads ... its recommended by most if not all, there are many things that can be added, its almost a science within a science... its just a case of finding what suits the method and strain your using

i like to use about 1/4 perlite mixed with the soil... i got a cup or w/e i have around handy and put in three of them with the ffof soil and then one of the perlite, just keep doing this till the container is full, stopping every so often to mix thoroughly, :)

i'm stoked to see how these are going to turn out for you as i picked up a few of them in the pick and mix section just to see what i think about the whole auto thing as i've never grown one before..

good luck with the grow m8..

my advise is go real easy with the nutes .... autos burn so easy ... and by the time you see it its a day too late and the burn keeps coming!, its much better to wait until you see the plant needs nutes (pale looking complection)........ all plants will be differnt but i should have waited untill week 5, thats was around week 3 of flowering before adding bloom nutes... i started much earlyr and its taken its toll

i'm pretty sure if i added a little more to my soil mix (bat shit and worm casting ... ect ect) i wouldn't have to add any nute to them at all

Fox farm Ocen Forest has everything in it so u do not have to ad anything. Should put seedlings in jiffy cubes or use party cup that you put drain holes in bottem. use starter mix for seedlings. Something organic and not super hot soil that may burn ur lil babie

yeah thats true and a very good point ... i start mine in seeding soil ... and let them go to about two weeks before adding them to there final 3 gal pots of light soil.... some full soils are too strong and cause burning from day 1

I think you will be OK with the FFOF. The Scotts probably would have worked just fine too. When using "hot" soils for seedlings I think where a lot of people go wrong is over watering. If you don't over water they shouldn't burn. I never used FFOF, but with everything I've seen and heard about it if I would, I would probably cut it by 25% with straight peat moss.

Well the Joint Doctor recommends 18/6 for his autos. It seems like people have issues with autos not flowering or taking forever to flower on a 24/0 light regimen.

i did greenhouse seeds GOM ... 23/1 and they loved it .. i would have done 20/4 if it wern't too cold for it ... but you are 100% correct some don't like being without 6hrs of dark

I am drawing up a chair and subbing. I have never grown auto's myself. But I am ordering some for my next round. I did some research and decided to go with the same strain. I use FF Happy Frog so we are in about the same medium. Looking forward to the rest of the journal. Oh and what did that bug look like and have you seen more?

Best of Luck to you my friend! +rep for taking the leap into farming!
