I learned a lot this first grow and wanted to thank everyone for the help. My Northern Lights Auto currently at 70 days.
1. Lighting - Lighting should be where you spend the majority of the money for your setup. If you cheap out on lighting you will regret it and will spend more to fix your mistake then just shelling out the additional money from the beginning. Do research and do not trust customer reviews. I am buying a new light for the next grow, still doing some research but I think a QB LED will be my best bet. I cannot have anything that produces a lot of heat and need something dimmable to ensure I don't burn the tops of my plants when I can't move the light any higher. Currently my plan is to use 3 gallon fabric pots and to Top and LST. Once the plant is about 12" tall I will flip to flower and do my best to keep her under 24" tall. This will only give me about 10" between the tops of the plants and the light but it seems manageable.
2. Space - How many plants can you actually grow? I have a small tent 20"x20"x48" and I started two plants at the same time (Stupid!). I ended up having to toss one of the plants because it was overcrowded and was just not developing. I tried to take it outside to have it continue growing however the change in environments caused all of the pistols to turn brown and the buds stopped developing, what a waste. Training is also extremely important if you do not have much space. As you can see my plant is kind of all over the place. My next grow will be photos which should give me a lot more options when it comes to growing in a small area.
3. Research vs. Doing - While everyone can benefit from reading forums and watching YouTube videos there is just no substitute for hands on experience. Identifying issues, Training, Nutrients, and even watering the right amount really requires that you pay attention to your plants and how they respond to what you do.
4. Being Prepared - As you can see some of my leaves show a calcium deficiency. I went on a little vacation for 3 days, when I left everything looked great but when I got home the damage had been done. I removed most of the very damaged leaves and started to use nutrients which completely fixed the problem (No new damage and the other leaves have remained healthy). I wish I had been more prepared to prevent this from happening but I definitely will be next time.
Thanks again to everyone who spent time talking me through some of the early issues that I experienced. I am extremely grateful and cannot wait to start my Bison Breath grow. I will definitely be doing a grow journal for my second grow. I hope everyone has a great day!
