Normal?

This is my first grow with a 400w MH bulb. 5 gallon pots in fox farm soil. temp is 82 with humidity about 45%.

I sprouted 3 plants 7 days ago and doesn't appear they have grown much in that time frame. 1 is about 4" with 2nd set of true leaves emerging. 2nd plant is about 3" with 2nd true set starting to emerge. Third plant is about 2" with 1st set of true leaves.

I have them help up with stakes as they are a little spindly but it doesn't seam like they are growing that much yet? I have grown with CFLs and it seemed like they grew faster and filled out faster.

Am I just too stoned (smoking the JACK!!) and am over reacting or is it normal? Thanks!

dont hold them up with sticks, they wont make themselves stronger and they will grow up weak
they are fine, give them time to grow.
and MH isnt the best to sprout with, why dont you sprout them under the cfls? especially if youve had better results with the cfl. just my 2 cents
good luck

I thought about sprouting with CFls but i already put them into their 5 gallon homes. got a nice new set up and wanted to get them in there right away in big pot...I just lowered the light to about 20" above them. I have one stick next to sprout but not tied and another one actually tied to stick.

Well just give them time. Mine are growing a lil slow too. try dropping down the lights just a lil. I know it helped with mine a lil cuz than they dont stretch too the light as much

light diminishes exponentially with distance. in the future, it will be a good idea to start them in smaller containers under cfl, then switch to larger buckets under mh.

in the meantime, may want to lower that mh until they stop being spindly.

pics would help, they may be alright. i have often had seedlings get oddly tall before they fill out and seem more normal height.

Thanks for the help. I lowered the light to about 20" and started to put wet towels in the growdobe for more humidity. Then I rememembered I had a nice humidifier so I cranked that up to 60% and put into room. Lowered heat to 83 degrees. Then I gave them a little molasses foliar feed and wet all the soil and around the stems.
