First off thanks for looking.
I haven't even started to germ any seeds yet but thats not my worry.Looking for a cheap in expensive way to grow out of a 50-gallon fish tank.
I have no soil yet but I got 100w daylight bulb
the tank and a halogen bulb which i don't know will work.
and some sockets.

  • When I do germ will an 18/6 light cycle work for the first few weeks or just 24/7?
  • I have a decent size space for grow set-up but i don't want huge plants.
Well thats what i need for now. Will post pics when set-up is finished with more questions.

This isnt such a good idea, you want NO light hitting the roots and you also want plenty of fresh air in and good exhaust out and as you probably know aquarium glass is a nightmare to cut. Get a rubbermade container.

germinate some beans....put them outside while your getting a 400watt mh......................get yourself some oscars for the tank.....start feeding them raw hamburg, bugs, and some small lizards......buy a 4x4 ebb and flo table.......you'll be using the table as a flood and drain................some hydroton......or if your by a creek bed.....get the little pepples and fill the table 3/4 of the way.........buy 2 small submersible pumps.......one for the tank and one for the barrel or whatever your using.........find a 50 gal barrel or some totes.........figure how much water it takes to get to the top of rocks............then while your plants outside are growing so you can find a good female....then while that's happening read up on aquaponics............

im assuming ur goin to put plant pots in the tank??and not try and fill it with soil!!germ when uv got all ur gear in place, ie pots thermometer light etc, dont do anything until all is ready or your gonna end up running around like a lunatic trying to get stuff. we need to know what kind of bulb youve got although by a daylight bulb i think u mean sumthin up by the 6500 kelvin area(?) need more info buddy. if that the case then yeah it will bring the plant on at first but its not really strong enuff to get a good flowering cycle going. as for lighting times that up tp you, i veg in 18/6 or 24/0 just depends what mood i'm in , ive noticed that 24/0 is quicker but there's a lot of arguments as to whether its good for the plants, its up to you. read up on it and make ur own mind up.
btw how big is ur fish tank and if uv got a decent space why bother with the tank at all, i'd only use one for bring my seedlings up to around 6" then put them under a better light, maybe a 250hps if u dont want or need huge plants. as for plant size all you need to do is turn your lights to the 12/12 flowering schedule when ur plants are half the size you need the finished plant to be, that is when u turn your lights the plant will double in size(they can treble but its not usully quite that much)

I am not sure what the temp or light spectrum is but i know it's intended for a lizard. My closet is pretty big so i can manage a dif container becus i am haveing second thoughts about the tank.
