Noob needs help with identifing seeds

Hello all, my first post, and sadly it has to be for help. I was curious if there is a way to identify what strain my seeds are, got a few from a friend but i lost touch and wasn't able to ask what strain it was, any info would be very helpful.

PS: Does the age of the seed effect anything while growing?(The seeds i have are at least 5 to 6 months old,a couple are a light color, most are brown with white dots, some striped)

no you cannot tell by seed markings.

5-6 months old is fine, the light ones may not be viable.

an oltimer i know uses seeds from like 1980 something that he stored for all this time he has hundreds and they grow some dope ass weed .

they last at least three years.

my seeds go back 3 yrs. and still germinate. trash the younger lighter green or white ones. they are too young and will never germinate you arelookingfor dark brown with dots or stripes on them. hard shells, no cracked ones
