I got some seedlings on their 3rd to 4th nodes. Started in beer cups in FFOF all was well untill last 3 days lower leaves began to yellow at the edges then brown spots develop. Plants are 3-4 weeks old been fed nothing but dechlorinated tap water. Im thinking this is a nitrogen defficiency I uppotted half the plants and none were rootbound yet. Opinions? Thx in advance

damn nice soil! well it could be ph imbalance, maybe ge ta ph meter i still dont got one but i heard it causes real problems, make sure ur not over/under watering either, dont get to close to the light,as long as its not burning ur hand its ok for the plant, and do u got a fan blowing them?give it a few days if they dont recover i would reccomend testing ph or something, maybe transplanting to new soil

light is at a good distance no light burn, my tap water ph is 7.2 I know it isnt ideal but the FFOF has some PH buffers in it oyster shell and some other stuff Im planning on getting a combo meter but I just dropped alotta cash.

PH problem..... it's almost always a PH problem. Soil is more tolerant of a higher PH .... but even so ... it has its limits. Usually the yellowing and following little brown spots that look like burn are really signs the PH is out of range .... locking out nutes from the plant. I killed my first few plants the same way. Once I learned about PH and PPM it's been a MUCH easier road to grow.

thank you FloridaGirl I have a Milwaukee PH51 pen the store talked me into buying but its a POS. Will flushing with distilled water help them? What can I do to stop this from spreading to the growth tips?

Unfortunately distilled water or even water run through an RO machine will still need the PH adjusted. I grow hydro and use a continuous read combo meter so I'm not familiar with the pens. I think I read your ph is at 7.2?? Run some water through the plant and then test the runoff water.... see what it is.

Really the only thing you can do to keep this from spreading is fix the problem. I had a slight problem with my next attempt too because my water out of the tap has a high PPM (550 out of the tap). Solved that with an RO machine. Anyway... once you get the problem under control new growth should be fine and eventually you can cut off those old damaged leaves.

PPM usually isn't as big a problem in soil... .however if your water has too high a PPM and then the soil has nutes in it as well... then that could be too much for young plants. Distilled water is best to use if you are unsure of the PPM of your tap water. Remember... you still have to adjust the PH... try to get it down to between 6.5 - 6.8.
