No Roots. Promix or FFOF?

Roots isn't sold in my state so would a 2:1 OF/LW mix with coco added or Promix organic be a better base for super soil? Or a mix of OF, LW, and Promix?

Any help is appreciated.:eyesmoke:

pro mix would not be the most practical because it has no nutrients and therefore would not be a good choice if you only want to add water and not feed. read the supersoil thread again.

in my experience super soil is so hot it doesnt matter. i re-amend my s.s. and continue to add only water with fine results.

I'll probably just go with a mix of the 2 since I already have a bag of OF and a bunch of coco.

When you say you re-amend do you mean re-use your super soil? I know Sub only re-uses it on is vegetables and whatnot I was just wondering what your results were re-using it on your ganja garden if that was your meaning.

if you r doing a small batch then by all means use what u have. i make several batches at a time and can get promix for like 25 a bag. so its considerably cheaper. there are several ways to skin a cat. both work fine. as you probably read in the supersoil thread sub has used the 2:1 ratio with foxfarm products with good results. yes i re-amend my ganja garden soil. farmers around the world that grow produce do not throw away top soil every year and neither do i. i know sub doesnt re-use but i disagree with that approach. To re-use super soil i use the following approach, first remove all large roots then i let the rain flush it during the winter and finnally cover the pile with clear 2 mil plastic and"solarize" the dirt. the middle of the pile reaches temps well over 150 degrees. after solarizing i treat with a product called mycostop to kill any possible pathogens. follow up with a treatment of hygrozyme and your ready to re-amend!

Thanks for all the advice kushking! Yeah, right now I'll be doing really small batches but your soil recycling operation sounds awesome and when I have the space for it I will definitely have to do that. Hopefully I'll have some sweet bud shots of tga gear to show you the results someday!

no i currently use roots and re-amend that for indoors, because i have access to it, and get it for 10 bucks a bag. plus i have a several yard mountain of it!! used, stripped down s.s doesnt have much more e.c than pro mix or sunshine mix #4. i have used both with good results. i do use pro-mix for new multiple palette outdoor gardens. and then re-amend annually. @ my home garden i have a side by side comparison of a container with brand new roots with subcools exact recipe vs. a re-amended s.s with different ingredients.

thats the point of promix. its just a growing medium, i like to know what goes into my plants, and when your soil is nuteless you know whats going into your plants + as said, the ss is hot in ferts so feeding is taken care of.

Would you mind sharing, in a little more detail, your steps and how-to on re-amending subcool's supersoil?
Thanks

after removing all large roots, place all used super soil in a pile to a depth of 18", diameter of pile will be dependent on how much soil you have. water thoroughly and cover pile with half mil clear plastic for maximum heat penetration. leave covered 4-6 weeks (middle of summer is best) this is called solarizing, more info here: http://ceamador.ucdavis.edu/files/942.pdf next, treat with mycostop: http://www.agbio-inc.com/mycostop.html follow up with a treatment of hygrozyme and then re-amend soil.
