No power. Could be for a while

Once again Michigan is getting smoked with power outages. Just curious how long my plants can sit without power? My concern is the humidity in flower and my veg plants starting to flower if sitting in the dark too long

A couple days before it's a serious problem.

yep, back up genny, thats what im looking into because of the price of electricity here in the uk. im looking to maybe convert a petrol one to run on LPG.

I can’t get a generator unfortunately. I don’t live where I grow and if i put it outside that thing is getting stolen for sure

its not a case of how long, its more a case of how offten.
a short outage may be ok, but depending on how offten they are, will determin if you end up with hermied plantsl
how offten does thois sort of thing happen?

I was out for like 3 or 4 days early in winter. I never checked on the plants because I didn't want to open the tent and let any warmth they maintained out once power came back on I went and checked and they were praying to the sun gods and looked REALLY happy. No weirdness in the Veg tent after the outage either.

When growing indoors there’s 2 things that will come in handy that most don’t think about.. a generator, and a fire extinguisher. Never know when you might need them. At any moment either one of those could be the most important thing to have on hand. If it’s possible I’d look into a diy solar panel system. At least for a back up.

It would work to lower the RH and "might" give enough light to keep the plants from triggering. (I dont know how many you have in veg)

Your veg plants will not begin to flower unless given intermittent lighting. Humidity could be a problem but light is obviously the biggest concern right now. If you don’t get restored in like a week or so your plants will sort of freak out when lights come back on. It will take some time (couple of weeks) for plants to recover & once they do some of the leaves might even shrivel up and drop away. This is normal for extended light depravation. Any plants in bloom will stall for awhile but then continue developing buds again. They will pick up where they left off once light cycle is normal again. We lost power for 11 days back in 2010 and it was a much longer recovery than I thought it would be. On the bright side got hella yields from that grow due to all the sputters & restarts. Had to top the plants in veg after they stretch out from being stressed & get real lanky but that made them grow back even thicker.

Now my problem is that the power keeps coming on and shutting off. Some time last night the power came back. My flower room didnt get over 71%rh thankfully. When i was in the garden today the power shut off again. Not sure how long it's going to last this time but the constant on and off might make some nanners now.

It's better to buy a generator e.g. Champion I recommend this generator wholeheartedly. I bought it in September 2018, despite my husband's view that we did not need it, it cost too much, etc. After the derecho of Sept 2012, our area of central Virginia had no electricity for a week. Fortunately we were able to borrow a neighbor’s generator (they were out of town) – which made all the difference: power for two fridges, lights, a fan, etc.

So I finally went ahead and bought this product over three years ago. At the very least, I saw it as a kind of insurance. We lost power for three full days this week (January 2022). I fired up the generator for the first time (see caveat below), and ran it about 8-12 hours daily to run all of the above plus chargers for phones and computers. It was a lifesaver. Even running only half of every day, the power kept contents of freezer rock solid. So it can help you with plants.
