1/12/13 made 8 weeks(56days) in flower for both strains..I have no microscope to see these trichomes turn amber, so im wondering when would be best/estimate to chop if im looking for some sure ripening? They both seem to be classed as 8week finishers..and I know home indoor growers dont necessarily chop at date listed on pack..so thats why im asking ...would i just chop at week 9 just to play safe? or just chop at week 10 to make sure? If I were you, I would harvest some of it now - and wait for the so called "couchlock" (a couple weeks?) for the rest. Then decide what you like best. My personal experience is that I don't like overripe cannabis (which is couchlock enough for me - my words, some say they are perfect only when amber). We all have different taste.

That said, it's hard to say if they are ready over the internet. You really should invest in a scope, it's not expensive. Remember that during curing it matures somewhat more, and THC turns into CBN (not CBD).

I usually wait 9 weeks after flipping them to 12-12. THe first week is sorta a shock to them and I don't count it.

Although I have a jewlery loupe I use my camera and blow up the picture on my monitor to check for cloudy and amber trics.
You seem to have a pretty good camera and could do the same.

You can make your pix larger in here by uploading them then double click the pix and select a bigger size.

thank you for your input, but question!

Ok lets just say microscope is out of the picture...
lets say a strain says 7-8 weeks to finish (in description)
would it be safe to assume that it would/should be ready to chop undoubtedly at week 10?

not at all. if phenotypes vary a lot then one seed from a pack could be done in 8, one takes 12. Usually there is not so much variation, but it depends.

most all the pics id wait at least 2 weeks. or even more depending, once you start seeing nanners pull em (not to offend but those plants are a little stressed)
that said nice work bro

this is done, see how the pistols have receded? your ladies have a ways to go.

this is a different genetic and i'm going to go at least another week on them, maybe 2.

to get to mostly cloudy trichs with a little amber i'd say you have at least 1 week to go, probably 2.

looks nice though.

i'm at 60 days. i'll give the top plant and her sister clones another day or 2 then, the first sacrifice of the new year! :)

Thanks for sharing the knowledge rock! I appreciate the time to comment...Yes no offense taken...they were stressed most of the grow anywhere from burning to deficiencies ,they had it! Lol as I'm using promix and totally new to indoor/soilless ...(haven't done much outside to talk about either lol) but that being said...I just want these to finish nicely for whatever they're worth...my girls in the hempy buckets were in solo cups now into 2gal buckets.
And all I can say is...my plants are literally flawless...so I know I did something wrong with that promix lol ...maybe because I poured it out the bag and put my plants in? Lol too late now!

Thanks for your time also fat boy...I sure like the ladies you got there ! ..and yes I can see the difference with maturity in my plant to yours...now I'll surely wait that extra 2 weeks and monitor her until then...my scope should surely be here before then...
So it's ok to say let her go til she browns in most cases you think?

Yea acdude...I'm just trying to get it right without the scope and maybe get accustom to eyeballing the finish...I'm sure it's an experience thing...ideally I'm looking for a chop window is what I want

yeah, you aren't even close to overripe yet. i always take enough bud for a joint about this time just to taste it. in a couple weeks, it'll be a nicer overall high.
it's a nice high picking earlier but most of us prefer the high later in the plants life. for most genetics, when the hairs are mostly receding, is when you have to start really checking the trichs. i only get to a few amber. i don't like going any later.

i've harvested a bunch of small grows over the years and i still cut them too early sometimes.
sometimes the vegging plants just need to move up to the big room and sometimes, i'm running out of stash.

i have 3 genetics going. the one is coming down in a day or 2 the rest soon.
it's annoying not to cut them all down at once, but i'll be patient. exactly 10 more days patient.

Great info..my plan was to find out how much weeks they would finish so i can bring some girls in the flower chamber..
basically if it was 10 "sure weeks" then i would try the harvest/flower every 5 months ordeal :)
but..lets see how that goes
