Next project in my grow box build! need some advice

My grow box is 20 inches wide by 16 inches long by 36 inches high. i only plan on having one or two plants grown in the box. the box is mainly just for flower.. and i know these plants are going to stink... its been about three weeks and some are already stinkin.. well it smells beautiful to me.. but to others ( my room mate) its not so much... He doesnt know about the plants and i have some in the back yard and in my closet... my box has two 120 mm pc fans running in it at the moment..


So my next project is to some how make a carbon filter for my box so that the smell doesnt leak out of my room at least to the living room and so that he can smell it... i need it to be as smell proof as possible... this is a stealth mission and no one but me and my gf can know about it... ive came across a few carbon filter ideas but cant seem to find one that will work for me.. ive tried finding the pencil holder one with panty hoes but cant seem to find a pencil holder big enough for me...



then i tried the atrium grate one if any one has seen that and i put it up to my fan and did a test with some weed smoke and my girl said it was jsut as strong as blowing it in her face...

i need help finding the right carbon filter for me.. noise is an issue which is why i dont have a bigger fan

Well I've never made my own filter. But my advice would be to keep trying different DIY filters until one works to some extent. Then invest in a tower filter fan. I believe they make filters with febreeze scent in them, so it will help filter odors and exhaust febreeze scent. Another thing to add would be a jar of ona gel or two. Those things should help if all used together.

Mmmm never heard of Ona gel... im going to look it up now lol

That looks like it deffinatly might work esp for a small box like mine.. but where would i put it? in the box or outside of the box next to the exhaust fan?

I personally haven't used the stuff. But if I were relying on only ona-gel and a carbon tower fan, I would put one in the grow box and another behind the intake of the fan. Maybe in front of the exhaust. I really can't give accurate advice as to how to use it, just that it's supposed to help eliminate odors. They have "ona-spray" also which I'm told works well. I use to deliver pizzas and my car would stink of grease and..pizza. Someone recommend on-spray because of its odor eliminating abilities. You could use the spray on the tower fan filter. It'll be a chore but just once every couple days take the filter out and get it slightly moist with the ona spray. Without the use of a real carbon filter and high cfm fan your going to have to use multiple techniques to control that smell. Spare no expense.

Ill tell you this, I had 6 ladies about 2 ft tall in a basement. About midway through flower you could smell them the second you opened the door to the house. And I was using a carbon filter and high cfm fan. I will admit my room had a lot of air leaks though so it wasn't scrubbing the air properly.
So make sure your room is free of any un wanted cracks. I'm done rambling

So basically i am going to ahve a hard time containing the smell of a small bag seed grow? just one plant... gahh haha im screwed if my roommate finds out.. he is like a natzi when it comes to growin... idky becasue he used to smoke with me.. but who knows.. and haha its okay that you rambled.. well it wasnt really ramble it was some helpful info.. so thank you!

Well all strains vary in how much scent they put off. It just so happens I had a seedsman skunk and white widow, both of which give off a strong smell. So I don't know how much yours will smell. But better safe then sorry. Plus if you only have one or two ladies it will be easier to control. Only way to find out is to try it. And if you smell it when your box is closed, the you obviously know you have to try something new.
Like I said before.
1. Homemade carbon filter
2. Tower fan with febreeze filter (should help scrub air and mask weed smell)
3. Ona-gel/spspray
try those three things together. If it doesn't work you might have to get creative

haha thank you. all my plants are just bag seed to see if anything even comes from them. and it wasnt very good stuff.. so i doubt that it will smell that strong. but i guess i never know.. and when i put them in flower i will deffinatly start being observin of the smell.. cause i know its going to at least some... last bag seed grow i did it outside... and i could smell the plant 10 feet away.. but that was a different bag seed... i guess ill find out soon enought

Maybe at the end of your exhaust and then ONA gel in the room.

ONA gel or blocks are a pretty potent smell especially in a small box I personally wouldn't use it inside your grow area as it could leave an odour or taste on the plants. Just my opinion of course.

turning my plants to flower tonite... only vegged for around 3 weeks. they are small but that is what i want.. a small stealth grow.. nothing big for my first time indoor.. we will see how this goes from here lol... i hope i at least have one lady lol

i bought a true air odor eliminator today... the plug in kind.. left it plugged in next to my grow box.. left for about 3 hours came back and my room smelt wonderful... im thinking that if i buy two more of these and have them going all the time in my room when my plant is flowering i will be able to hide and actually not have any smell... plus i have a diy carbon filter with a atrium grate sitting on the exhaust side of my fan... i need to find a way to mount it to the inside of box so that it will be more steathly... and i hope with all that plus Ona gel i will be able to cover up the smell... i hope any way... its just bag seed that im growin.. so i doubt it will be too harsh

A lot of times bagseed can turn out chronic, thus smelling strong and potent. Reggie is usually just from cash-croppers planting hundreds to thousands of plants not removing males or taking care of the garden. And after harvest they don't cure the buds nor trim them properly. Then compress them into bricks and ship em to wherever the money is. This is where Reggie comes from (usually). So a well maitained seed from the bag grown healthily can very well turn out to be a stinky sticky product.
That said, chances are it still won't be as genetically inclined to smell as much as chronic beans, so you should be fine. Give us an update when your in flower. Good luck !

In Flower now but i havent noticed any changes yet smell isnt any stronger.. and havent been able to sex yet.. how soon should i be able to sex the plants? its day two of flower? and my plants are pretty small becasue of my space

It shouldn't take long. Maybe 1-2 weeks. Just look closely. The females might look like males (little balls) at first but they will have the single white hair/pistol coming from it. Just look at a lot of male vs female pictures and pay close attention. Chances are even if you have males I there for 3 weeks they won't pollinate anything as it won't "flower"/pollinate till after that. You'll be fine. You seem dedicated and you ask questions. Don't stress it too much
