Newbies please read this ultra important information!!!!!

Sorry dude I have to disagree , Carbon filter work . But only if all air leaving your grow space is properly scrubbed , sure its going to stink like high heaven in the room . But the air leaving through the filter no smell ,smells like nothingness

I have to say this is good advice for noobs on thier first grow. We want all growers to be safe, yes?? This guy just wants the growers to grow and not get busted, why hate on him for that?
Yeah, it's gonna stink, even a couple plants. New growers should take all the advice they can get, and make thier own descision based on thier own situation. I think the major point he's making is that it's a risk, and he's giving advice on how to manage that risk.

This thread confuses me. The OP says that carbon filters do not work 100%. Other threads and the guys at the local shops say that carbon filters do work 100% (so long as you're cycling you're room's air every 5 minutes)

Who is right? Do carbon filters kill ALL the smell or NOT?

Good Morning Mr. Delta :)

The filters "help" make ya safe.. And thats about it.

They only "help" .. But do not take the smell away 100%.

The hydro shops will tell you that they will work...you know why?
Because there a business, and want your money. They'll tell you what you wanna hear. :hump:

I have been to a few of my buddy's growrooms, and they run multiple filters bigger than mine, and the smell still lingers outside no matter what.

Its a battle.

Its best that you go all the way with filters than without.

I run ozone and carbon here at my house,
And my Gf still tells me that there is a hint of smell in the front yard around the 5th week into flowering.
I cant smell it, but then again Im used to the scent.

Bugs me out.

I think the reason It was lingering is because I was growing 21 at the time.

The only strain that does not smell,
That I have come across was the Northern Lights #5.

At my last house I grew a huge plant in my bedroom, had people over,.. No one ever suspected anything.

It was only one plant, but still it would of reeked hard if it was my Glass Slipper.

As soon as my Northern Lights #5 beans arrive, I will be growing out only 4 of them, along with 4 GS and thats it.

Greed will get you everytime!

Im cooling my jets around here. :peace:

Ive been cuffed and stuffed before...

Aint going down that road again..

If you're in an apartment, the chances of neighbors smelling u is only great if u use the living room space. Using a closet within another room will help contain the smell IMO. Helps to have neighbors that you know and trust as well. Can't rat u out if they're smoking with you.
Thats true... Behind closed doors will ceratinly contain the smell better.

Yet, the smell will find its way out.

You may not think so, but it does.

Let me fill you in one some priceless info,

Trust no one...

Remember the Golden rule.

People will envy you, and get jealous and retaliate over the most stupidest reasons.

And take you down in a heartbeat.

Its sad, yet so true.

Its happened to me. Not in a grow, ..in a different way.

If one does decide to grow a few stinky strains in their own home, what might your recommend to eliminate as much odor as possible? Can 50 38 Special Filter is here already along with a Vortex VTX600. I am not willing to go the ozone route as it is a major health concern.

Thanks Closet for caring.
Hello LLCoolJ,

You have some great equipment for sure. And i can see your trying.

Ozone Generators can be dangerous..So I've heard. Especially with small pets/kids if the ozone is not vented out well.

I run an air lazer ozone gen 24 hours the last 3 weeks of flowering and I have not had any ill effects from it.

Also, I run my canfan model #33 24/7 from start to finish to reassure myself that Im doing my very BEST.

But, Still... Unfortunately, does not remove the odor all the way.

Once again, The only way to be even safer is to start off with a low odor strain... Plain and simple.

You wouldnt believe the number of growers who dont even use *proper* odor control.

IMHO, Id say its gotta be somewhere around the 75% mark. :hump:

Downy sheets dont count...lol!

Their asking for a knock at the door.

Be safe and Have a good day, CG :)

wheres the low odor strain list?????
You will have to do a google search... There are so many strains out there... Research ;-)

The one I know that works for sure, is The Northern Lights #5.

Its the best that I know of. :hump:

Just think how nice it'll be to grow in a smell-free environment. Worrying SUCKS!! :bigjoint:

Odor and a big mouth get ya every time.

We've been in our home for 28 years, bought it right out of boot camp when we got married. I know my neighbors and they know me and we all get along nicely. I don't rat my neighbor out next door because he has put up Livable buildings without permits on his two lots and has up to 8 relatives living there. I look out for them just like they looked out for Red while I spent 28 years in the Crotch. I had plenty of leave time every year and would spend about 2 months a year at the house max 2 weeks per visit. Some times it would be for a three day from Pendleton. My immediate neighbors have all lived here longer than 20 years. So I feel comfortable in my surroundings.

Stealthy caution at all times.

Think OPSEC 24/7.

And know this,,,,,,,

Yer breaking the law.

They can arrest and strip you of your liberties at anytime during your operation.

Until it is legalized, don't do the crime if you can't hire the best criminal defense asshats, er, attorney out there. Frig doing time for a plant. Don't be greedy. Learn how to harvest every month.

You can do it.
C'mon, I know you can.

The answers are here. Listen to the ones that have successful grows time after time.

Be a Bob Marley and get into the groove of nourishing a living, breathing, drinking gift from nature that can do more than just get ya stoned.

Smoke some more and relax. Breathe deeply. Take a break and relax. Turn the lights down and the music up. Take another hit and hold it til ya damn near pass out.

Free the Plant,,,,
Free Your Mind.

You'll feel better right quick.

Great thread Closet +rep. So much great info here. I also have a Canfan 33. Throughout veg and 4 or 5 weeks into flower my filter works wonders. Strange noses never suspect a thing. But once I hit 5 or 6 weeks I definitley need to supplement the filter with some Ona. Seems to work pretty nicely.

When I first purchased my canfan I was under the impression they were the end all of odour control. I thought nothing could penetrate my odour defense, but alas, this myth was exposed. It certainly kills 75% of the scent in late flowering, but not all.

Love this thread :D

Your post is extremely accurate.

Let the truth be told!

As you know, Iam running the same filter as you, and it works in the same manner.

Thanks so much for your post/input, and the rep.

Have a nice day, Grow Hardy! :bigjoint:

Sure will.

Make sure your at least running a high quality airscrubber like a Canfan, and or an ozone generator.

Will help, but may not take away all that odor.

Good thing you have permission.

Roll up fat joints for all your neighbors.. :joint:

They let ya slide... ;-) heehee

Take care Man :)

People... You CANT grow out these kinds of strains in an apt, or anywhere near others.

It simply will not work! And thats the way it is.

The smell cannot be controlled. No matter what kind of Carbon Filter, or ozone generator you may have.
WRONG. A good carbon filter will completely remove ALL of the odor if it's installed and operating correctly. THAT'S the way it is!

Hi everyone....I ve been reading this thread and thinking so much about the matter of odor.I am about to grow a Short Rider in a PC-Grow Box and the first thing that got me really anxious was the odor.I would like to have no odors in the room but is this possible?I will make a carbon filter large enough for that space but i am still not sure about the result.Do you have anything to suggest?Do you know anything about Short Rider?Does it smells bad?

Maybe 1 or 2 growrooms out of a 1000...

Most people cant afford big bucks to have the state of the art odor removal you must be talking about.

Must of the growers here on RIU are small garden grows with cfl.

Get a low odor strain, and you may not even need the extra equipment.

Do a search on google and you'll probably find out everything on the strain you mentioned.

Carbon filters HELP, but rarely remove all of the smell.

Believe it or not :hump:
