Newbie topping question ++rep

If you top a plant and cover it with a tar or something. What would happen to the rest of the plant? Most of a plants energy is put into the main cola during flowering, but what if the cola wasn't present? Would the plant reroute its energy to the rest of the plant?

When you LST a plant, the main cola still grows vertically and buds, right? So there's noticeably more bud on the cola than the rest of the plant, I'm assuming. So what if I topped it and tarred it? Would the rest of the plant fluff up and result in little main colas everywhere? I wish I had the space and place to do the research myself, but I'm very limited to how much I can do...

The whole idea is when topped a plant will generate not one new main cola but two!

I FIM and have started to LST. I also FIMed the FIMs and FIMed a couple of the side sprouts that have popped up since LST. I am also watering it with carbonated water (without sodium) and it is growing about half an inch a day, and sprouting new leaves and shoots every time i turn around.

The sprouts on the sides become main colas and the old top just grows and tries to grow upward to become a cola again.

All of this "tar" business & "light focusing" is very confusing. If one is working with large woody trees out in the open, you might want to seal off a major prune site with some "tar", but please keep it away from your girls. And unless you are using a "flashlight", what is it you need to "focus"?
Good luck & good grow...,...BB
