NEWBIE QUESTIONS: Several to be answered

First ever grow after years of reading and smoking of course.
Space is roughly 1.8 x 0.8 x 0.65.
Will be growing GHS Big Bang, with a 250 HPS bulb, reflector, mini fan.

Questions:

- Is this strain as smelly as reported? what sort of ventillation should i be looking at/Smell Control/How early?
= Note cupboard has a ventillation grate at the very top.
- Basic beginner lighting schedule?
- Will this setup be enough to support 3 full plants?
- What soil setup/plant pot size should i go with given the conditions i have?

All experience and wisdom is appreciated, i hope to be talking to you guys more regularly soon :-P

You will need a carbon scrubber....
18/6 light schedule is mostly used
Which of your dimensions is the height? If it's 1.8 then I'd have 15-18 litre pots, six weeks veg, then flip.
Sounds like a nice little set up :)

(Edit; Oh, and well come to RIU!:leaf:)

The height is taking into consideration the lights hanging from the probably closer to 1.6 level.
Could you recommend a good carbon filter purchasable online for under $30?

So begin with 18/6 light schedule for the six weeks, then switch to 12/12?
I will probably start a log so i can get some help along the way, my neighbours shouldnt be a problem but i like to be extra safe :)
(Thanks, i think i shall fit in well)

And you shouldn't put a set time on how long you veg. your plant(s)... rule of thumb, give your plant enough room to "stretch" when you flip to 12/12... that "stretch" can sometimes double your plant size, maybe even triple on some strains... Use your available space to tell you when to flip to 12/12 light schedule to induce flowering.

Thanks for the advice :)
I have looked at the filters you linked me to, what size do you recommend i would need for the specifications i have listed?

Also can anyone link me to a soil guide/basic watering guide.
Will i need nutrients? i would prefer to grow as organic as possible.

Yes you'll need nutrients...and some research on soil, organics taste lovely imho...
Try the organics section for a soil recipe..they're friendly folks.

(Sorry Personal Jesus, I've got to spread some +rep around first...I'll say a prayer for you tho ;))

You should have enough action with the 200 CFM model... You will also need a fan or blower to pull the smelly air thru the carbon filter and exhaust it out into whatever area...

In your post you used the word "cupboard", that makes me think you have a hard-sided box... not a soft-sided grow tent. If you got a hard sided box with a vent opening on the top, I'd find some way to suspend the filter next to my light up at the top of my box. I'd go one step further and attatch the odor-sok directly to a computer tower fan, make sure you get compatible CFM ratings, and then exhaust right out the box... either run a short piece of ducting to the vent on top or just cut a better placed hole. Make sure all your seals (ducting, fan to odor-sok) are airtight. If air can pass thru, so can stink...

I hope this helps... Its kinda hard to put the picture in my head into words

My only current fan is a 6" clip on fan, it does not list the CFM rating where i purchased it.
It also looks like it will be $140-150 for my filtration, this may not be in my budget until a month or so in, would this be a problem as long as i had it before flowering?

Vegging plants don't need a carbon filter... they smell "green", if at all
You most certainly need a carbon filter for flower however.

6" clip on fans are great for "air circulation" within your box... you will need a separate fan to pull the air thru your filter and out into where ever

I've never scrubbed my veg room either, but it has to be said there are a few strains that get whiffy in veg.
Not many, I've only had the one that bothered me, but they're out there..

I think i have an idea once i can afford the other fan and filter, i'm looking forward to this experience now!
Hopefully everything should be green to go by the start of the month

Use a 24/0 light cycle. Marijuana is a type C3 which means it will use ANY and ALL light given to it. Dark periods during vegetative growth causes stretching.

Also you will need some sort of way to mask the smell, carbon filters do work well provided your room is almost completely air tight and you are using negative air pressure to draw air through the filter and out of the room.

Are the dimensions of your room in feet or meters?
