Hey i put 5 seeds in a paper towel and im using the papertowel germination method. its been 3 days and the only difference in they went from a tannish grey to a dark brown almost black. anyone know why they changed color like this? is it because they are like water logged lol.

ok well your seeds started as tannish grey? well first start with that a very mature seed most likely will be brown or very dark green/grey it could be very possible that you have gotten seeds that are not fully mature but i personally have had seeds that take up to 10 days to germ (i almost gave up) as for the color change its because of the water the seeds absorb the water and become saturated much like human skins turns white like when you get prune fingers because its saturated so i personaly would let them sit for longer keeping the towel moist i have heard stories of seeds taking up to 14 days but idk its up to you if you want to go that long hope any of that can help good luck!!

you will like the lowryders. i grow them all the time and started breeding seeds out of them. I had very high quality seeds take up 2 3 weeks. very rare but just be patience. Everything takes time.

I've been hearing people say it can take up to 10 days for a seed to crack, but I've germinated lots of seeds over the years and I've never had one take more than 3-4 days to crack.

I played around with bag seed, germing, before i purchased good seeds. I had some that turned black, they never sprouted, even 2 weeks later. The easiest way to paper towel germ is to soak them in a small cup of water for ~24hrs, or until they sink, give them a good swirl ever once in a while when they are in the cup. When they are ready, they will be on the bottom, and you will see some particulate matter from the seeds in the water. Then put them on the paper towel. 1-3 days, they will pop. That works 100% with viable seeds for me. I had one of my papaya seeds do just that, turned black, never sprouted.

I also never used TAP water either.

IMO, soaking them will take about 2-3 days off the germ process.
