the best way of sexing your seeds is to grow them and take clones and then flower the clones. keeping them all labeled obviously.

yes you can keep the males and let them polinate the females. this will not weaken the strain. there will still be a lot of genetic variation in the seeds that result. you will want to find the strongest, best of your seed crop to perpetuate. then take clones of your strongest mom(s).

for outdoor soil preparation, you basically want to dig your own hole and fill it in with your own mix. you can stick a seed in the ground and hope for the best but... the plant basically needs NPK. Higher amounts of Nitrogen when vegging and more K Potassium when flowering. I would put some good mix in the hole (like ocean forest) and then blast it with N a few times when vegging and K a few times when flowering. God will take care of the rest.

as far as pests i have never been to Cali, but deer and small rodents like to eat your plants. there are several methods of protection such as fencing, electrical shock, piss, hair, etc. I have found irish spring soap helps to keep away the wildlife.

As far as nutes, i would say just keep it simple. You likely dont need any nutrients at all and you could have a great yield but additional nutrients will probably be beneficial and boost potential yield. I use fox farm in dirt but anything really would do. I usually feed a few times during veg and a few times during the beginning of flower. I wouldnt try to compensate for soil conditions (but you are being very analytical and I will say that will take you far in this endeavor). I feed my outdoors about 1200-1500 ppms.

bugs are generally not a problem outdoors because they have competition which naturally limits their population. I have never had a bug infestation outdoors tho i have noticed a few mites, thrips, etc from time to time. I have heard slugs can be a problem but have no experience with them.

most strains will generally flower after 30 days from seed. you can take a clone any time you have several sets of leaves and growth tips. I would say wait until it is at least 8-10 inches high take the top 4 inches or so and leave a few sets of leaves on the bottom. those floros will be great for the seedlings. just get the lights as close as you possibly can (almost touching the plants). good luck

oh yeah and i wouldnt plant in a partially shaded area. these ladies need full sun

and the seedlings that grow twice as fast (after about 2 weeks) are generally going to be males. they grow taller faster

one thing i would add to your soil is some beneficial enzymes, mychorrizae. you can get this in granule form in a product called plant success.

no im in a hot region but we get a decent amount of rain. how do you plan on watering your crop? partial shade would prob be better at 115 degrees.

dont worry about the daylight hours. i would just veg them under 18/6. when you move them outside the plants will know that the days are getting longer not shorter. they will not start flowering until the days start getting shorter on july 21 or whenever the summer solstice is. so you will have a few months of veg. even if you move them outside at 12 hours of light they will not start vegging because the days are lengthening in the spring.

actually let me take that back, i have had some clones that were under 24 hours light start flowering when i put them outside in the spring. but after a week or 2 they went right back into veg until late july.

oh and you could definetly use some soil moist to cut down on the frequency of waterings.

yeah its the lengthening of the daylight hours in spring and summer that tell your plants to keep on vegging. they may start flowering a little but will realize that its veg time and revert. soil moist is cheap and easy. you just add it to your soil.

also putting a big trash bag in your hole and then putting your soil in there will allow the water to stay near your plants roots for longer. this will also cut down on watering frequency
