Newbie Looking For Advice On Closet Grow

I know there are probably a thousand threads on the subject but would just like some advise, or even a link to some recent guides.

As of now the plan is for 3 - 4 plants, growing in soil. Thinking I may just go with some flos, have the space to use 2 double ballasts with 2 4' tubes in each for vegitation stages, then maybe switch up to a couple MH for flowering? Have read the quality of the bud will be better with MH. Have the ability to ventilate, but if there isnt a need than I would stick with the tubes and maybe add a couple plant lights? Wondering whats best..

I was lucky enough to recently find a few seeds bud in a bag of what was said to be Bruce Bannor. Not sure 100% on the strain, but either way it was some killer dank. So I have a few seeds I am going to try and grow. I have read on how to obtain new seeds as well. But if anyone has advice on shops to use that would be great too. Im in US, so keep it in mind.

I will be doing my shopping at lowes or hd, so looking for advice on good soil, & lights. Also what kind of additives to use for watering, proper ph as well as fertilizer & such. For plants around 3' what size pots.

Also would like to get a guide to light timings for flowering. I have the room to go to 2 - 3' before flowering. From what I have read the veg phase is 16 - 18h light cycle, then ration it down to 12h for flowering.

Thanks in advance for helping a n00b with my first grow.

How tall is your closet how tall and what size are your pots and how much space from the base of your closet to the final bulb you will be using?

number one repaint the inside of closet with a fresh coat of white paint. then figure out how you are going to get electricity into that closet. do you need to cut holes for ventalation it could get hot in there. you can check it out easily enough wirth a thermomater after you get your lights hooked up. you will need a fan because the plants need airflow to make the stalks strong enough for buds. now how are you going to prep the seeds? I personally like to stick mine in a shot glass filled with water overnight. then in the morning i put them in jiffy seed coins( i get them at home depot they come with a little dome and are right with the vegatable seeds) keep it warm and in a few days you got seedlings.

I should mention I have grown outdoors in the past, so I am aware of how to germinate and get them started. Just need advice on the lighting and closet part.
I am planning on using cfl's tubes for lighting, and will have a fan for ventilation. General room temp now is about 74f in the closet. Ceiling is 8 feet, however as I stated I am planning for flowering when they are about 3ft, and the pots will be about 12" high, so figure 4ft to the top, which leaves plenty of room above.
Walls have been painted flat white, and the space is 3ft wide, and 4.5ft deep.

Seeds will be done by using a damp towel & ziploc. Always worked in the past.

I am also a carpenter, so I am able to set the lights up so they are easy to adjust and all that. Just wondering what the best lighting set up is? Is there such thing as too much? Like running 2 cfl tubes on top and then 1 on each side to keep lighting on lower buds overkill?

As I said, m experience was done outdoors, and we had great soil so it was simple, sprout them & clip them under light for a few weeks, stick em in the sun and let nature take its coarse...

I would go with them flo's for vegg, but you dont want MH for flower, you want hps and I would go with a 400W, perfect for closets. It has the right temperature for buds. If your using a closet that is going to be closed then you will need a fresh air intake at the bottom, you can get inline duct fans at menards/lowes/homedepot for about $30 a pop, they come without a cord so you have to get one of them to wire them up, only a couple bucks. You need some aluminum ducting and a piece of black plastic sheeting for the closet entry. I use two side velcro stickies to fasten the plastic up so I can take it on and off as I please. The only other thing you need is an osilating fan in the garden to move air around. If you can't afford a carbon filter get ONA BLOCK. You can get a cannister for $10 off of amazon. It will take care of any and all smells, in the garden and in the rest of your house. Good luck with the grow!

Thanks jpockets420, I have a decent setu with ventilation, at least for the vegg stages. May need to beef it up if I go with HPS tho.

Now would I need 1 400W HPS per plant for flowering? And should I leave the flo's in as well for flowering, or pull them and replace with HPS?

Thanks in advance...

PS: Any tips on soil?
