Hi, im new to this and i had a few questions I used the search on the site and couldnt find straigt answers. I am not trying to do anything crazy just 1 or 2 plants mayb for myself. I was planning on doin the plant in a 5 gallon bucket DWC set up. I was wondering what the best thing to plant them in is? rocks, moss etc? Also im not to worried about the flowing right now so what should I use for nutrients? Ive heard of thrive alive, dyna grow? I want somethin that is goin to help but not leave any chem taste or anything somethin organic? any hints tricks etc would b great please help me :)

I am not new at growing, just the hydro side of it. Just recently started using foxfarms grow big and tigerbloom in my soil grows. I love it. But it is strong shit! Start your dose at way less than the directions say. I start at 1/4 tsp per gallon and work up from there with my soil grows and intend to do the same in my first upcoming hydro gro.

the more the better. a 250w hps is pretty cheap and cove 4 sq or so pretty effectively and heat is not much of an issue. with cfls i would say at least 300w per plant for decent results.

I have always done 4 plants in a 3x3' area with a 400w HPS for flowering, I have had great results using Botanicare's "Pure Blend Pro" grow and flower. I have had great results with just using them (the 2 parts) and they have a whole line of products you can add.

DWC is the same method I use, I have the hydrofarm bucket system that came with "Hydrotron" which are clay rocks to help hold the roots. I didn't like the hydrotron because of how much it took to clean the rocks after each grow, and I felt they where making it harder for the roots to grow as fast.

I got tops for the buckets and now its just water with an air stone for oxygen plus nutes. The only downside to this is that near the last few weeks of flowering the tops get heavy and the plants tip over, but because i have a small space the tops hit the walls and open up for more light at the bottom, increasing my yeilds.

I would tell you to get a 400w HPS enclosed reflector system so you can vent the hot air, and if you wanted to add more plants you could, but how much light needed is basied on the size of your grow area, not the number of plants.

As for the medium, I like rockwool, just because I know how it works and it has never let me down.....after I knew about PH balancing it. Just make sure you have a small aquarium air pump to put in the buckets for air to the roots.

Pureblend Pro line from Botanicare has always been great to me and its organic, like I said before I started with just the grow for Veg and clones, then Flower for Flowering (with PH down for acidity levels). They gave me fast growing plants with great highs, good tastes and good yeilds. I say good and not great because once I added some of the other things they suggest on their website things got to the great point! But I also like them because I add nutes in the ammount they say on the box, then check it with my PPM meter and they are in the range I want (1500ppm highest 350-400ppm for clones).

I am pushing you to start with just the 2 parts, then try adding things in your next grow. This way you will have a base formula to go back to if the plants get sick.:bigjoint:
