Newbie 1st time grow , Philippines

Good day to all of you!
I am starting this thread so i could get little help and guidance from more experienced growers.
So here are some of the details:
Mostly indoor grow with occasional sunlight exposure. i wanted to grow outdoors but it is currently the rainy season here. I am growing plants for about 3 weeks. Help will be much appreciated.

Lights: 2x 24watt cfl DAYLIGHT / 3-5 hours of sun exposure depending on weather
16-8 cycle
1"-2" away from top of plant.
Medium: 2 parts soilless mix, 2 parts loam soil, 2 parts vermiculite

1st and 2nd Plant: about 2 weeks and 4 days old (June 20, 2014)
the one on the LEFT has yellowing tips on the first set of serrated leaves, I watered it with 1/4 strength 20-20-20 mix fertilizer 4 days ago(June 16). is it nute burn or something else?

The one on the right got sun exposure when it was just 1 week old. Now it is on full time cfl so i could have a very controlled grow on it. I also fimmed it 3 days ago but its showing the same results as the other plant. (chopped developing leaves instead of new nodes?)

I'd say they are a little young for such a high dose, go very easy these first few days. I suspect that yes, that yellowing is nute burn.

They are a bit young for topping, but some people do it right from the get-go, so it's not *impossible* to top at that age, just they are fragile, young little things and don't respond well to "abuse".

Personally I would wait a couple more nodes before topping. Also, as a newb, it is hard to tell when fimming has worked in the immediate aftermath because it's difficult to see at first if they are new main shoots that will branch out into two each or if they are single shoots on the main stem as before.

Give it another week then look (and top) again.

thankyou, i will stick to plain water for the next 2-3 weeks. i will further dilute the solution to 1/8 strength of the previous ferts for future use. :|

haha I know what you mean by newbie anxiety I sit and watch my plants through out the day lol its a exciting project and with this site you can always learn something new im currently on my first grow I have 4 Purple Diesels that are 6 days into flower I veged them for about a month indoor grow but since I started flowering I set my 2 biggest babies on my porch for a little while in the afternoon figured they would enjoy a little bit of actual sun haven't really seen 2 big of a diff yet but its still new to them

KushDreams, my almost purely cfl grown plant is getting left behind by the ones that get sun exposure. they are the same age from seed but the one getting sun time has bigger leaves, thicker stems and it seems it develops more nodes faster than the other. the one in the green pot is grown mostly with cfl.

on pic 132.jpg , there appears to be some development going on the lower branches. little sprouty leaves are coming out of the internodes. no topping or fimming was done. only cfl lights on the sides

anyway here's an update:

Hey there I'm a first timer myself in Bangkok, I understand about the rainy season. Hey your plants are small enough, why not out them all in the sun?
What are you going to do about flowering? You will need a lot more light than just 2 little CFLs. You have a RH and temp display? Looking good so far. You going to keep worth the mystery nutrients or will you source up some ingredients and make Aerated Compost Teas? It's quite easy, use a 20 liter bucket and an aquarium air stone my plants loved it. I'm planning on chopping day after tomorrow

hello lord lonnis, i'm going to add lights as i grow them, maybe every week or so. I am aiming for a total of 100 watts during flowering. I have classes from 8:00 am to 4:00 on weekdays so i can't just risk letting them sit outside, my friend took chances a week ago and his plants drowned. I am also afraid they would get pests of some sort if i let them out too long. so i stick to letting most of the plants that fit in my window ledge get some sun times whenever possible.

i don't have rh and temp displays as of now. i only have a thermometer in the grow area. i just put a shallow bowl of water near the fan to keep the air from getting too dry on very hot days. Regarding the nutrients i used, it is Siam 20-20-20. It's the only available one aside from the really cheap concentrated ferts on stores. If get more money, i'll give the compost tea a shot. thankyou :bigjoint:

I caught my first and only spider mite infestation in all this time by bringing 1 or 2 plants outside and then back into my indoor growroom with the strictly indoor plants.

Beware of hitchhikers!!!

hello r31, if you are growing indoors, simply switch to a 12-12 light cycle.if you are growing outdoors, i think you should just wait a week or two. as far as i've researched, even indoor plants may take some time to flower after switchin to 12-12 lighting. hope this helps.

can you post closer pics of the stems and nodes?

plant question: is this a successful fim or not? i can see 4 shoots at the top. (2 from the sides and the stem looks like it is finally splitting. (fimmed again 2 days ago)

When u are growing outside u are at the mercy of the weather. The plant will flower and bud when the sun and the length of the days tell it to. Sorry my friend
Is that because our plants usually flowers and buds during Fall season?

if you are an outdoor grower, judging by the climate here in manila, we still have long days. so i think naturally the plant should be starting to go into flower now, or when the days grow even shorter, probably on Ber-months?
