New York Growers Thread

"New York City's Board of Health voted today (Sept. 13) to approve the "soda ban" that limits the sale of large sugary drinks within the city, according to tweets from Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Under the measure, people will not be able to buy sugar-sweetened drinks larger than 16 ounces at fast-food restaurants, convenience stores, movie theaters and food carts. (The limit does not apply to grocery stores and other venues or to dairy-based drinks such as milkshakes).

"[Six] months from today, our city will be an even healthier place," Bloomberg tweeted.

However, experts say it remains to be seen whether the city will actually be healthier. Critics have pointed out that people could just buy two 16-ounce drinks rather than a 32-ounce drink.

One recent study attempting to look at what effect the law might have showed that the new measure could reduce New Yorker's average calorie consumption, but only if at least 40 percent of people make changes in their drink consumption..."

i am fucking outraged! its not the lawmakers job to police what we eat and drink, and moreover its not their job to make sure people don't get fat. who the fuck do these people think they are? this should have been a suggestion at best or a PSA. i think im moving to Canada...

Well the only sativa in my grow for now is blue dream.. It's just a clone that rooted 5-7 days ago but she will be vegged for about 1month+.. I got this clone shipped frm a fine farmer and im going to cherish this baby. Yields well, flower fast and is some fire I'm all for it.

I actually thought about something like that didn't think the idea was feasible though guess it is.

It's good to see I'm not the only borough bound grower on this site lol. Just planted my first germinated bagseeds. Literally about 5 mins ago. Got a little pc grow going. :)

Some cold/cool weather on it's way, fellas... How are all you outdoor growers making out?
how could it take me this long to find this thread?!?

fellow new yorker here, just outside of syracuse.

i had six total plants this year outdoors. 3 jack herers, 1 ak-48, 1 nothern lights blue and a clone of the nlb.

2 jacks got ripped, but the rest are all good. the clone is still in the ground, but the rest have been harvested and are mostly hanging now... can't wait!!!

Hey Folks!

I'm down here in the NYC. Had a small grow in my apt until this morning, when I finally faced the truth that I had two males and cut them down. They're sitting in a trash bag -- I'll have to run out in the middle of the night and dump them on the corner of 86th and Lex! LOL

So just dropped two more seeds in rockwool at noon, and am starting over. So nice to see other NY growers, and some city growers too. I'm hydro, as I can't be messing around with soil right now. Keeping my studio apt clean is hard enough without actual dirt in here. :)

Hopefully by 4/20/13 I'll have a harvest -- we should have a meet up in Central Park!

MrMJ420, those look beautiful! I'm ridiculously jealous right now. In a good way, of course. Glad to see you've done so well, hope I get to say the same in the relatively near future.
