new very 1st time to growing

OK, so this is my 1st time growing, and my 1st grow is a PC case grow. For the most part, I think I have a clear understanding of "THE BUILD" for the pc, but like many others I have questions about cfl's. Ive already read the sticky on cfl's, and its helped a ton for sure. As this will be my 1st, I wanted to start a new thread as I work on this project from start to fnish.

Already Im just alittle stuck on lighting atm, so I guess my 1st question is... HA HA CFL's lol!!! Ok B4 I did any real research, I just looked at alot of vids on youtube and seen what people had in their pc grows for power, fans light reflective ect.. It seamed really simple and so off I went to walmart, but got stuck at lights, and just bought the best I figured that would work. After reading forums after forums, I came to the conclusion I've gotten the wrong cfl's and that was the best WalMart had instore.

I read on a sticky ( https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-fluorescent-lighting/107992-tutorial-growing-cfls.html ) For Vegetation you will want to use 6500K or 5000K and flower you will want to switch to 2700K or 3000K. Ok, this I understand, but I guess my 1st question is does this apply to pc grows and also can I have more than one blub that can equal the total 6500k, for example (4 daylight bulbs -23w & 1600 lumens each would = to 6400?) Would that work for a pc or would I have to return the lights I have and go find new, bigger bulbs?

sory for making 1 simple question into a long drawn out one lol. I plan to start today on the build. I orderd my seeds yesterday (auto Blue Mystic)

As thing progress, Ill try to post pics and hope my 1st grow come out clean and good!

the kelvin rating is the color spectrum the light puts out. you cannot put lower kelvin bulbs together to add up to the right spectrum, it dosent work like that. basicly wattage is energy used, spectrum is color, lumens is brightness of the bulb. you want the 6500 in veg because it produces more light int he blue spectrum which is good for vegatative growth, while the 2700 is more red and is bettter for flowering. Grows can be done with only 6500s because the extra strength in veg light will promote a bigger plant and yield more

If this info, isn't well it should be a sticky....Adjorr good way of explaining...

Got it and tys. my problem was I misunderstood what the "K" was for in the 6500"k". The clf's I had was 5000k, and after taking some time and doing little more reading on the back of the box. So I took those back to WalMart and I found some mini spiral cfl 100w compared to incandescent (26w actually used) 1600 lumens and has 6500k. Im going to use x4 in the box.

Also I was thining about light placement vertical along the back center of the case instead of horizontal along the top, My idea was to try get lighting from top to bottom. I can understand why it wouldn't work, but I would love some input on the idea.

Welp, got started, gutted out my case I bought and started to cover the inside with some reflective material from a sun visor that I wasn't using. Gotta say, 1st time using a hot glue gun too, not my favorite stuff to use I found out... little messy :D

Its not the best Ive seen or what everyone has seen, but hey, it should work.

Watts and K are different. Easy to confuse to newer users. Watts is how much power the bulb uses. K is the temperature "color". 6500K is strong in blue and useful in vegging. 2700K is "warm" and is red in nature generally and thus better for flowering or inducing fruiting.

Go buy a 23-watt bulb in 6500K. They can be hard to find so lighting specialty stores might be your best bet. Buy a cheap bowl reflector too. Make sure it has holes in the skinny end by the socket for heat to escape the reflector. Tell the sales person you definitely need a 6500K bulb and not another temperature.

Been doing more work on my box today, had to leave town this weekend for some BS. Ill post my finish box later. So my question noq is what soil and nutrients should I use for my 1st grow, and this is for a PC grow at that. Ive heard a lot about some soil and nutriens from Fox Farm, but that Ill i know atm. if any input or thread links someone could pst, that would be great!

lol thats alot of plants for 1 pc grow. you going 12/12 from seed right?
long story... now its short, Im planting 2 outdoors.
LOL, No, really I am!

They are on 18/6, if I wanted to they could be on 24/0 since they are auto, but I don't want to stress them out to much.

Ok long story, When I started, I was just going to go with 2 for my PC. I waited 3 days, nothing poped up, so I cheched in on them by diging up the soil and see how that were doiing. Welp, noting what happing, so I didn't want to wait on them any more, so I planed 2 more. After 2 days the 2nd round poped up, opps then 2.5 days later the 1st 2 poped up. So yea now I have 4, and no room... Unless I make an 2nd PC box or its outside they go, but yea most likly its outside.

Here where I had them 3in from under the LightIMAG0011[1].jpgHere is after I transplanted, and I was like WTF no room for all four, so as you can see I numbered the pots to rotate over every day to the top, hopfully be sharing light.IMAG0018[1].jpgToday while smoing and looking at my plants after feeding, I can up with the idea of cutting the very top portions of the pots to make more room so I can have all four pots on the same level. Since this pic, I have put back my DvD cases(used to lift or raise my pot up to the light) Now they are back to being 3-4 in from the lights..IMAG0019[1].jpg

As for the 2 im going to put outside, Im waiting for them to flower and get warmer at night above 50's I pay!
