Hello rollitup, first time poster, long time reader. :eyesmoke:

I have been browsing rollitup for quite some time now, learning and absorbing information from you fine gentlemen and ladies :)
But one simple question still remains.. I have had trouble finding information regarding exhaust/inline fans, and how they differ from one another.
I been assuming exhaust fans suck out of the area, where, inline fans blow air to the directed direction?

So under this assumption, only one fan is needed; assuming only one HPS/MH is used.
But this is just my assumption, as I could be terribly wrong, which comes to my question.

Could I have optimal results meaning, smell, temperature under control with this setup:
(ALSO! NOISE is a BIG issue for me, I want to achieve full to almost silent operation.)

Carbon filter > duct > HPS/MH > duct > inline fan > duct > outside of garden room.

This is the inline fan I would be using: S&P TD Silent TD-150S.

as long as your grow tent/box is air tight it will be smell proof and the temperature should be under control. you may want to add a small fan inside the room to circulate air better though

OH! This might be important.. The room dimensions are 7H/7L/4W with 600w for flower and the veg is just a bunch of CFL with reflectors :P

Welcome to RIU, responses may be a little slow atm due to the time. <3
Stick around and I am sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.

You would use an inline fan (can fan) to push or pull air through a filter. A cage squirrel fan is normally used to push/pull air with little restrictions.

The fan you posted looks like it would work great for your needs.

I would get the 200 series if using a 600w light.

Hmm so, Carbon filter > duct > HPS/MH > duct > inline fan > duct > outside of garden room.
Is correct?
or Inline fan> duct> carbon filter > duct> HPS > duct> outside?

I am using the TD Silent series (8") with a speed controller. Great fan thus far, this is my first fan so can't really comment on other types. From my research, this fan runs 75% quieter, and I can attest it is pretty quiet. My room is 11'x6'x6' high. It's oversized, but I have it turned down with the controller. THe fan also has a low and high speed wiring port which is why I oversized mine. Can always tune it down if necessary. Running (8) HO T5's and eventually a 600W HPS in a basement room.

Highly recommend this fan if you have the $, noise and odor are CRITICAL for me, just installed a Mountain Air filter a few days ago and all noticable odors are GONE.

Fan has been running for around 1 month strai

Carbon filter has to come first. Can't push air thru a filter. You will also need an intake duct or you will pull heated/cooled air from the rest of the house. (not a problem if you like a LOT of fresh air)

An inline fan is a type of fan that you can use for your intake or exhaust, like that S&P. If you are using it to pull air in, you are using it as an intake, if you are using it to pull air out, you are using it as an exhaust. You don't exhaust the room through the lights. The duct holes in the hoods are for if you are cooling the lights with air (which you would use a separate inline fan for). To exhaust the room it's filter > inline fan > duct > outside.

Sarita99, You hit the nail.. Thank you so much. I was so lost in the whole ventation aspect. rep+

You CAN exhaust the room thru the lights, but you can't seal the room if you do. May not be a concern. Does mean one less fan to buy, and a little less electric. Some of us have a limited amount of power availible.

I push my air thru my can can...seems to work swimmingly!

Mr. Mason is spot on. Same setup as a vortex or equivilent. I have carbon filter, rigid duct, fan, rigid duct to exhaust grill. I am using an adjust-a-wing, so no ducting to the light required for cooling. Choose rigid duct to keep it clean and compact (used oval duct as much as possible with transition fittings at the fan and filter).
