umm...hey guys. i have an indoor hydro set up. I just have a couple of questions.

My reservoir is about 6 quarts and its filled up just around 3/4 of the way. My 3'' netpots get filled with water about 1/2 the way. Should my net pots be soaked in water 1/2 of the way?

If your trying to grow in a dwc, you want the bubbles to be at the bottom of the basket, just keeping the garden plug moist.
so take some water out until your there. Once the roots hit the water, then you can lower it even farther if needed.

6 quarts of water? Maybe consider getting some 5 gal buckets, cause 6 quarts of water is going to go fast, be a pain to put the right amount of nutrients in, and keep stable as when you lose 1 quart of water the nutrient level has now gone up by 1/6th, let alone 2 or 3 quarts, and i know a plant can drink that in 24 hours.
As for the actual question i run a shallow water culture system and i let the water go 3/4 or so up the plug, just make sure you have a lot of oxygen in there if you are gonna run it that high.

hehe yeah 6 quarts. what could I do with a 6 quart res? cause I killed a plant due to high ppm and ph levels, plus I think I over fed it with Spray N Grow.

But now, after changing my Res, My PPm is 102 and my ph is 6.5 with no nutes. The water is filled up to to keep 3/4 of the net pot submerged in water.

a seedling is in an organic seed starter plug, has been for a week, and in 1 week probably around 2-4 cm of water had evaporated in my res. im starting to wonder if ill have to had water with a ph level of 0 to the water each day just to make sure its always at the right water line.

For now, the seedling, thats one week germinating (which means its a seed trying to grow into a sprout right?), and now with a new cleaned res with no nutes im keeping the light on 24/0 for another week to see how tall the sprout grows. * oh by the way, when I put in the seed into the new clean res, I noticed the seedling had a little sprout just barely showing itself. I hope to see good results this week, but not without some help and my own common sense hehe

not to jack a thread, but im going to attempt some hydro (prb a dwc or ebb flow) and was just wondering what other plants besides weed would be a good starter? i dont want to destroy some valuable crop and waste money. i just want to practice with hydro be4 i put investments into it, get the timing and levels down, as well as nutrients. trying to move on from soil. herbs a good taker in hydro setups?

well cause last time I had my roots floating in the water and everyone had suggested I shouldnt drown my plants.

yeah, I have those. oh I just googled dwc and it stands for deep water culture. makes sense now.

I would just get a bag seed and grow it, your going to use electricty and nutrients anyways, why not get $50 worth of bud out of it instead of $3 worth of tomatoes and/or herbs. Then you know if you are learning how to grow that instead of basil, which i imagine is quite different than what we grow. And any problems you have we can help you with here, basil not so much.
Anyhow about submerged roots, it is not drowning if they are floating on the top with all the air you have pumping in there, the more the better.

Cool thanks Trueno

i keep netpots bearly touching netpots until i have good rootgrowth in solution, then i lower gradually keepin roots 1/2 submerged with great bubbling action. they explode in growth in that moist airy zone

Lol no worries cause when I was reading it I was completely stoned myself @joint

Two days have passed since I changed my reservoir and only about 1/4 cup of water evaporated and my ph levels jumped through the roof. I just added ph down to the water. Any tips on keeping the ph relatively low and the same throughout? Or is it omething I'm just going to have to get used to?
