New to growing, this is my setup..Will it work?

4 60w cfls per plant (soft white)

You have the wrong spectrum of light to start out with, for vegging you need 6500k spectrum.
Wrong, if all he has is 2700k he will do fine, i made this mistake in buying loads of cfl's when they are not needed. Best bet is to buy half 2700k and half 6500k for a mixed spectrum, then you wont have to fork out for 2 different spectrum's for each stage of growth.

Damn...I didn't realize I had the wrong bulbs, I suppose it's not THAT big of a deal and I can go and pick up the right ones...But does this mean that these plants are most likely not going to have the correct lighting to sprout/grow?

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on how I could get the lights to be flat above the plants it would be much appreciated as I had tried everything and I could only come up with what you see.
Dont listen to these guys man, its not essential to have a spectrum for each stage of growth, look at my earlier reply, a mixed spectrum of 50/50 2700k/6400k will be alright, and save you on money if thats not an issue, then just fork it out, but as i said its not essential.

Finalllllllllly, day 5 and one just broke through the surface, I'm waiting on the others to follow suit. Perfect timing too, I just built the sides, and back of the new grow box.

Edit - I heard about fox farm soil having bug problems, and of course..I have them, just gnats though..will it be a problem for the new seedlings?
brilliant hope the rest are on there way then thats u sorted...

Thank you all, and sworth, that's not a bad idea..I work at a hardware store so I'll just buy some fly paper there, and if it dosen't work I'll invest in that Gnat off stuff.

As for the lighting, I actually have been looking up alot of information on growth with cfl's and iiKode you seem to be correct, as most growers prefer a mixture of the 2700k spectrum and 6500k So I'll make them half n half.

Thank you bobswelad, I would assume the rest are on the way but I can't be too sure, because the one seedling that popped up has been in the same position..without growing or doing anything for 4-5 hours. Is this normal? Because I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere the seedlings are supposed to grow very fast.

If this stubborn seedling hasn't changed by tommorow, I will take a photo and have you guys help me diagnose the issue.

Edit again - I was wrong, the little seedling is healthy, and it's starting to flatten out so to speak, and open its leaves, didn't stretch or anything.

that little seedling will def grow for you dont worrie, put your lights right down as close as you can without burning it and it will be just fine...

I'm verry happy, 5/6 have sprouted and I just purchased a bunch of 5000k cfls which i switched the other ones out for(kept some in the spectrum) I will post pics of them as soon as I get out of work.

Man...I've been upset ever since I made that post, because right after I did, I went down to water them and knocked one of the pots over containing 2 seedlings...They are probably shocked to shit and the soil is now probably dirty. So basically...FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

anyways - gonna take some pics and show you in a sec

001.jpg002.jpg003.jpg004.jpg005.jpg006.jpg007.jpg008.jpg009.jpg010.jpg the third pic is the two seedlings that got knocked over (twice) They will most likely die, but I'm gonna watch them like a hawk. Also I didn't mention this t8 fixture is pretty close the plants, idk if it does anything but i keep it on..theres in total about 4 soft whites and 16 daylights.

Also in the sixth pic, why is that seedling drooping, did I over water it..? Because it gets dry fairly frequently so I don't see how thats even possibly seeing as how I'm only spraying with the bottle you see there.

Well, those seedlings I knocked over are starting to bounce back suprisingly, and I also hung two of those power bars(the ones in the front) to be right above the plants and I moved the others to give better coverage, it's kindof funny too, the biggest seedling is the one that's getting the least light.

looks well man thell be just fine as long as you keep those lights as close as you can to them and dont water them to much just try keep the soil moist and not soaking, but all in all your doing ok man just sit back and watch the magic happen :eyesmoke:

Depends on how "DIY" you are... There are many options :). I'm not too familiar with CFL's but I don't think the spectrum will effect with sprouting even though once those beans pop I would STRONGLY recommend having the right spectrum :).

Yes, I have already figured out a way to get the lights to be where I want them, (some kindling, yarn, screwhooks, and chain) I also recently purchased 5000k cfls to go along with my 2700ks I have the full spectrum I need I think but I appreciate you trying to help :)

Don't forget to go easy on the watering, too damp and you could suffer "damping off"

damping off2.jpg

I lost a few to this, before getting wiser, so just a heads up.
It sure is a moral killer when they keel over...;)

Well what I've been doing is; whenever it's about an inch deep dry I spray them with some spring water. The leaves are drooping on about 2 of them, so I've been holding off on watering them for a bit, but one of them is actually starting to straighten out already.

But that really does suck, and I hope to god that doesn't happen to me :X

Sounds like you're doing the right thing. "Less is more" Many more seedlings die from over watering than under watering imo.

Oh shit that's a really good idea, I've been using metallic spraypaint, aluminum foil, and white spraypaint. They've been growing, but they still look like seedlings, waiting on them to get bigger. I also have a large roll of this white sheet type stuff that I'm sure would be very good for reflecting that I could use.

Also I'm finishing up this box by probably tommorow so It'll get even MORE light.

Man, oh man will it work? Of course it worked! Sorry for the extremely long delay in any updates, it's hard for me to get pics.

Anyways here are some photos:

more sidebuds :)007.jpg
Now these 3 last pictures are from a sour diesel plant that I planted much much later than the other plants, it's in the same stage of flowering though right? They've been flowering since april 1st and I have not seen any preflowers or any actual flowers.008.jpg009.jpg010.jpg

Overall I got 4 out of 6 plants that aren't males (Not sure about the sour) The room stinks and I love it, the lights work fine, timers great, soils amazing, nutes are successful..I'm a happy camper! Also, when I dumped the males I thought it was pretty cool that you can see that the roots have spun around the soil creating a really cool effect.

What do you guys think?
