Okay, so I'm new to growing in general. ive only grown once before (outdoors), and i fully underestimated the population of deer in my neighborhood (everything got eaten). Besides, the spot I picked wasn't too good anyways and I was halfassing it.
This time I've decided I'm going to make it an actual project. I have 4 grow sites (all with different pros and cons) but all good. I haven't decided which one I want to use. As I said earlier I live in Florida and I was curious about how outdoor growers get around certain things. The first thing is rain, when the plant is young and just starting out, what would be some good ideas to protect against flooding? (The sites are all deep in the forest, and very hard to get to... All the scratches on my legs can second that). I've seen pictures of people seran wrapping sticks together and making sort of like a green house cage... Does that actually work? Also, I've read a lot of topics on here specifically in the outdoor section and I've seen people post about burying the plants in the ground, but from what I've read your suppose to keep it in pots.
My plan was to fence off each individiual plant to protect from deer (there are alot) and even though it would look artificial the spot as I said is very hard to get to. If the seran wrap actually does work then that would eliminate bugs, and rain. If the seran wrap thing isn't a very good idea then maybe screen? Also, wouldn't the saran wrap promote mold due to the humidity? Not to meantion at nighttime?
Another thing I'm worried about is what strains to use. This may seem out of the question, but I'm looking for something that's considered high quality but isn't going to cost me a fortune (mainly because I'm worried about failing, and I'm not very well off to where I can throw money around.) Also, these online sites where you buy seeds online, are they legit? What are the risks of getting caught? And has anyone had an experience with a certain site that was good or bad? You may say, why don't I get seeds from someone personally, not off a website? Well, I'm worried they may say it's something else than it really is. And then I'll spend all this time growing and end up with shitty stuff. Not to meantion, everyone in my surrounding area it seems just got done watch 8 mile and boys in the hood and wants to make a name for themselves, not do business correctly. (I've had 2 knives pullen on me on 2 seperate occasions.) Lastly, what strains are easy to grow? I think the sites have difficult level on them. I just scanned through it, I think I saw "first girl", how's that?
My last problem I can remember is drying. I've read of different ways you can dry outdoors which is what I have to do. And I'm nervous about rain and the integrity of these methods. (Hanging them on closepins inbetween two trees while having brown bags on the top and bottom of each batch.) I live in Florida, what about winds and storms... Rain, animals?
Oh... One last thing, when they're in the flowering state I was a little confused while doing research about the deal with even distribution of sunlight and darkness. I read you can't even shine a flashlight on the plant during nighttime at this stage. What about moonlight? And what if my area doesn't get an even straight-down-the-middle 12 hours of day, 12 hours of night split? Does that mean I have to go out in my jungle of a forest and put garbage bags over the plants when light is no longer needed? And take them off when it is?
Shit, I keep thinking of new things as I'm typing. As for determing the gender, I read this can be done in the flowering stage, but advanced measures can be taken to determine it in earlier stages (I want to keep it all basic). I'm just worried that by the time I determine the gender of the seeds it will be too late. How earlier do I have to seperate the males from the females? And what are some good methods to seperate them before it's too late?
Okay, that's it. I'm sorry it's so long. Any help is much appreciated.
