New to forums and couple questions

Well no pics yet, but setting up 2 rooms 5x5 and 10 ft high. 1 flower room and 1 veg.

Was gonna use a 400w mh as I used that for my soil grows, this will be for my hydro that I'm gonna attempt.

My question is since I can get cfl ballasts cheap, would it be beneficial at all, to horizontally mount 5 2 tube cfl ballast horizontally up the walls from 5inches above the flood tray. I was thinking of mounting them up the 2 side walls and the rear wall. and have the 400 watt mh in the middle mounted horizontally from the ceiling.

Since the ballasts are about 8 inches wide at the reflectors, I would mount 4 ballasts on each wall.

Is there a benefit to this?

how many plants are you doing per room? i think you may need another MH bulb or two

well I'm mostly worried about the flowering room, was thinking of starting with 8 plants. Was also thinking, that I may get a 1000hps balast and bulb, cause that should cover that area fine. Just don't got the cash for the 1k watt yet.

I do currently have as mentioned the 400MH and about 4or5 cfl ballasts.

You should be fine, I am in the same area as you are using a 400watt HM to veg then over to HPS and CFL's for the flowering.

I am building two rooms, a clone mother room that will hold three moms plus 24 baby clones, will be using 4 T5 6500k bulbs to do the job, 24/7.

In the flower room will be one HPS 400watt plus 8-12 CFL's for the bottom of the 24 plants, basically what im saying is you CAN use what you have, just get some CFL's to fill the the gaps.

Use the 400watts for flowering is what id say, for every watt=1gram so 400 watt=400grams (if you get a great grow with co2 and have it all right.

that MH bulb wont do you shit for flowering tho gonna have to get you some HPS power on there.

Well since it will take at least a month or 2 before I use the flower room I guess I could wait to get a 1khps, which I should be able to get in about 2 weeks or so, and put the 1k watt and those cfls in the flower room. and put the mh and other cfl's in the veg room.

so with 4 dbl cfl's at 40 watts each tube per wall, that would be 960 watts, and 1k hps would be 1960 watts and 1960 grams under perfect circumstances?

Definitely didn't work out that way when I used soil lol.

man that is a shit load of watts for 8 plants, plus you need to look at how much lumnes they will be getting from height, how high r ur lights gonna be? that is really a shit ton of watts lol

well the 8 plants is what I'm gonna start with, over time that will get bigger.

I'm headed over there in a few minutes, so I'll go check some measurements to see how I would setup the ballasts.

So I figured it out that I'll put the 1k hps in the center and I'll have room to put the cfls against the walls no problems with space, the rooms will be a bit bigger though. gonna mount 2 cfls ballast with 2 cfl's on each on 3 walls.

I'll start my veg room, and try to get 15 clones so that I use up most of the space and get roughly 1260 watts.

That should be a decent turn out I hope.
