I plan on starting a ebb and flow system. I'am going to be using those cement trays from HD or Lowes. I would like to use 4''x4'' rockwool and hydroton as my medium.

What I need to have are movable plants. Sometimes someone might come over and stay the night so I need to be able to move the plants.

What would I use to contain my plants and how so that I would be able to move them when needed?

Thanks

Hey H.R

I suggest you use an area that you can afford to keep as your plants area.
A relatively small are can yield really well if your carefull.

If you are going to be moving them because you dont have the space, you should look up "Hempy Bucket".
I have read up abit on them and there really impressive adn are stand alone unit.
You wont need to use the hydroton or rockwool.
Try Coco with perlite maybe........

I have the space but as a compromise with my gf they need to be able to be moved if someone needs to crash in the bedroom(I'am using the closet).

Right now I'am on my 2nd grow of using the Hempy style with good results. It's easy but more hands on.

I use this tub for my mothers that dont need much room. They are in net pots since they get killed before moved. Mothers are in the bigger cubes so i dont have to monitor the water as often. It only flows every 24hrs. very light on nutes.

In my grow room, ALL my plants go in little 1.5" rockwool cubes that get placed inside hydroton. For buckets, i use those plastic coffee tubs. Drill some holes in the bottom, fill w/hydroton, place in the little cube and done! I dont like the bigger cubes for ebb and flow, they hold water too long! The wonderful thing about using the coffee tubs, is they only hold about 3/4 gallon of hydroton, but its more than enough room for roots for an indoor grow. Also, when its time to harvest, the rocks are so easily removed and reused.

I can easily move the plants by the little handle on the coffee tubs. I move mine around a quite a bit. Only wish i drank folgers not maxwell house. Folgers tubs are round not square. So for me. easiest is to just keep collecting tubs. Its great that the tubs also prevent root matter from getting into my ebb and flow system.

Ive learned to make ebb tubs out of just a few parts. I buy

1)a little submersible pump off ebay. $15
2)a digital timer $15
3)big plastic tote on wheels $20
4)8 maxwell coffee tubs $n/a
5)aquarium bubbler $10
6)15-18gallon tote for nutes $10
7)float level switch ebay $4
8.vinyl tubing $5
9)90 degree compression fitting $5
10)1.5" rockwool starter blocks $10
11)8gallons hydroton $20

And thats the best for cheapest ive come up with so far. Completely automated and simple. Shit, after adding it all up, that aint so cheap!! Oh well, i like the way it works so its a steal in my book. Let us know what you end up with.

In soil, they dont get very big. Id say they bind up at about 12-14".

In hydro however, Ive let them get to about ummm.. 32" or so? Im sure i could let em get even taller, but i prefer shorter to aid in light penetration. THis last grow, they all got really crowded, so im going short next try.

When i emtpy the tubs after harvest, the roots arent even near crowding the tubs. These babies grow fast when im doing it right, so Im gna easily say that hydro requires less root mass than soil. In my soil grows, the roots seem to get crowded in these little tubs.

Anyhow, I dont use the tubs for soil unless im running a BS 12" plant or so. Hell, ive got 3 of those little tubs with soil in em, growing some freebies sent to me. Sometimes i just say to hell with it and find some old dirt. IN the tub it goes, watered with whatever leftovers from my ponics, maybe some tap water too. But alas, there will be NO MORE soil in my house. The soil brings risks of pests. Ill save that shit for outside monsters.

o btw. I carry these out a small door, around a corner, up my stairs, thru another door and into the bathtub sometimes. For pictures in decent color, i carry them up the stairs and thru 2 doorways. Aside from the plant hitting the door frames, and some water drizzle on the floor. NO MESS!!

I have actually left a pretty big plant thats harvesting, sitting out on the grow room floor. I was thinkin' let it dry for harvest and learn how long they can go before drooping. Amazing enough, that big plant didnt show dry for about 3-4 days. Thats in my grow room, getting 1000w light from 30" or so. So no paranoia about leaving the gals out of their main water tub for 48hrs or less. Call me nuts, but if its easy for me to handle, its simplistic for sure!!

So, can i get some rep? Even if im totally full of crap, this is a ton of typing and maybe even comprehendable? Some pity points for having an ugly ass dog? lol

Happy growing!!
