New SoG in soil

So I figured out that growing just one plant is fucking retarded when comparingthis months and last months electric bill, how much of a genious am I. I'm on my way with just 1 mother, and I plan on doing 3 small 3ft plants at a time. i figure I'll clone 3 from the mother every two weeks until i have 9. 3 plants every two weeks is pretty nice I think, for a beginner with a low budget... I'll be using soil for medium. 1 400w hps lamp for flowering, 8 100w = CFl's for veg. and 5 100w = CFL's for the mother which will be on 24/0. I do have one question though, considering I am on a low budget, is continuing this grow with soil ok? How about productive in the sense that I'm not using hydroponics in this go round???

yes. in fact, since you don't have the initial outlay of hydro, it's probably your best option.

this is EXACTLY what I am starting to do soon, I just have to get my bag seed plants out of my flowering room...... and I'm not keeping a mother, I'm gunna take clones from the lower part of the plants just before throwing them into flower....and I've got 2 400W lights in the flower section, and still need to get something for the clones......

oh, and I've got the hydro setup.... drip system.

Why don't you use CFL's? The things are great. Get 5 or 6 of the 26w's and make a reflector for them they put out virtually no heat and can be left on for 24/0 with hardly a spike in your electric bill.

I'm going to take a stab a this (sorry if I'm wrong, ORECAL).

Let's see: WAY more light with those 400W = MUCH faster growth and WAY MORE buds. Oh yeah, did I mention they're at least twice as efficient as CFLs? Or that you can remove the ballast and its heat from the grow area? I could go on...

yeah but heat minus adequate ventillation equals problems... I'm only going to use the hps ballast for flowering. Go with the cfl's man there freakin' awesome.

CFLs produce way more heat per watt. With HID you can remove the ballast from the grow room, whereas with CFLs you cannot. So you either sacrifice lumens and therefore growth by going with lower wattage with CFL, or you simply have to add more CFLs to bring up the wattage and then you have more heat than you would with the equivalent wattage HID - and less lumens, because they're not as efficient!

If you're really concerned about heat, get a 75-150W MH/HPS and keep the ballast outside of the grow room. I did, used minimal ventilation and it worked out great.
