Hi all,
I recently set up new grow room in my back room ,,,basically threw up two sheets of plaster board in the corner of room which gives a space of 1200mm x 1200mm and put a door on it ,,,there is a 6" centrifugal fan for sucking air out through carbon filter fitted in roof .....there is 4" axial fan for bringing in air at ground level ......and few holes for added ventilation,,,,,i have a 400w hps light suspended over a hydro grow tank,,,,,,,,temp sits around 27deg and humidity about 29 ..........anyway as said this set up kills .....as cant get anything to grow in there..........by the way grew for years with set up in wardrobe and always had great results .......so any help on whats wrong would be greatly appreciated.........ta

Plasterboard is extremely alkalinic. If you don't seal it and paint it, you will have disasterous PH problems.

ph is steady at around 5.8, im using ionic grow as i have used for years with no problem........cuttings are well routed and healthy until i put them in closet ........its doing my head in:confused: and no its not a new system, same tank that i used in wardobe, just new bigger walk in cupboard.........did this so as could get 2 small tanks in.........this is why im thinkin its somethin to do with humidity or not enough air flow........or ex wifes cursed me lol

Why is that so hard to believe?
"Gypsum plaster surfaces are alkaline with pH 7-13+"
Google it before you bash me fellas!!!
Do you think it was bad advice for me to tell the guy to paint his room? Have any of you ever advised painting a grow room? Why do you think his garden is killing plants? Must be all the hot air.

And this years Darmin Award winner is............ CANNATARI! How would the ph of the surface of the wall affect the ph in the res?

I doubt its humidity, I veg tents that are 4x4 in a very low humidity area. My humidity sits around 20% if I dont run a humidifier. That said, mine will grow very slowly (not die) if humidity is below 40%. I would advise checking the basics.

Put a thermometer and hydrometer in there that can track min / max. Run the room for a couple of days and make sure that when you not around the temps are not climbing to high or going to low. Also put a thermometer in the res to make sure your not heating your floor and indirectly heating the res.

Check the air flow, use / rent a smoker (you can also tie a bunch of incense together) and make sure the air is flowing through the room and sufficiently aeriating the area where the plants are without blowing 400 cfm or whatever right across the plants.

Check your light, make sure you dont have old paint on the light or floor thats gassing the plant.

Go to the garden center pick up a more mature plant and sit it in there and watch it, does it die? if so does it die from one side before the other...

These are the intial trouble shooting steps I would take. I dont have a lot of experience growing mj but with plants I am pretty good and troubleshooting is my living. Always check the basics first.

yeah its got to be something simple like not enough air/humidity as same feed and mix i have used for years in old wardrobe set up ..........wishing i still had the old wardrobe now though as they say dont fix whats not broken. running set up now with door wide open and window so that should solve any shortage of air if that what is heres hoping this is getn me down :wall::weed::spew:
